Something scared me last night....

Postby cynben » February 2nd, 2006, 9:01 am

I am a diabetic and my blood sugar got REALLY low...so low that I started to sweat and slur my words. I couldn't find anything in the house to eat with carbs or sugar in it...I purged everything when I started MF'ing, anyway, I had to eat a spoonful of frozen cookie dough. I have talked to my doctor and she is adjusting my meds, but I am wondering how much this cookie dough will effect my weight loss. Silly question, I know, but I am doing so well that I don't want to get it screwed up.

cynben,

please don't worry about the cookie dough. You did what you had to do for yourself. Never put yourself at risk. Good for you for going to your Dr. right away about this. Put it behind you and keep going, don't let this upset you.

Your doing great!

I doubt one spoonful would affect your weighloss terribly. I'm no expert on Diabetes, but would another shake or MF suppliment have taken care of the blood sugar dip? We can have an extra suppliment on extra active or hungry day's. So, is the doc lowering your insulin?? If so, that's a REALLY good sign eh???

Keep up the good work!!! :)

It's an awesome sign, Joyce. As of today, I am not taking my insulin injections at all! I was taking two shots a day. I am having to monitor it closely, but as long as it stays in a normal range (which it will as long as I stay on the plan) NO MORE SHOTS FOR ME!!!!!!

Cindy

I have a sister that is a brittle diabetic and let me say you did the right thing. The most important thing at that time was getting your blood sugar back up!! I think it is totally wonderful that you are off your shots what a great accomplishment!!

Whew! Glad that turned out okay. What a relief that you still had the frozen cookie dough. And congrats on no more shots - yet another victory! This works to make us healthy in so many ways, not JUST the scale, but blood sugar, and blood pressure, and all kinds of good things!

Cindy, that is AWESOME news that you could stop your insulin!
That's a huge step in your new way of life. I'm sincerely very happy for you.

As for the cookie dough, you did what you had to do to get your count back up. You did the right thing.

As for your weight loss, drink lots of water today and you'll be back in ketosis in no time. The right kind of ketosis. :D

Don't worry about the cookie dough, but in future I would think one of the oatmeal raisin bars or one of the higher carb bars would have helped also.

Hi there,
The Medifast program dramatically lowers sugars for most diabetics. All diabetics need to keep careful track of their sugar numbers. Most will be able to either lessen or even give up much of their insulin. I always tell the diabetics to take their sugar readings several times each day. The sugar numbers will be coming down and medications will most likely need to be adjusted by their Dr. It's great news :D
