Congrats Queenie on your success. You are doing a terrific job. I have never tried Curves before but it looks like you have been very successful. What is the couch to 5K? I have never heard of it before. You sound like you are very active.

I too live in Wisconsin? I live in Southeastern....whereabouts are you??

Thanks for the kind words, Tawanda and Suzy :)

Suzy, the couch to 5k plan is from coolrunning dot com. The plan gives you 3 workouts per week for 8 weeks with you jogging 5 km by the end of the eighth week. I finish my 3rd week today. So far, so good. I'm not sure I'll be jogging for 3 miles straight in 5 more weeks, though.

Aren't you afraid that a 5-1 won't provide the calories you need to run 3 miles and do Curves? I guess so far your losses haven't been affected. I wish there were a special quide we had that let us know how much exercise was okay or when we need to add a supplement.

Hey Biki,

From my understanding of the program, we can do up to 45 minutes of exercise a day without needing to add an extra supplement. I read that on the mymedifast boards from nutrition support.

I only do 30 minutes or so of exercise a day; Curves is about 34 minutes, including stretching and my jogs are all around 30 minutes. I'm not worried about not losing weight. I'm much more excited about exercising regularly than I am concerned about my losses slowing down. Also, I don't do Curves and jog on the same day. I alternate days Monday through Saturday.

Have you called nutrition support to ask about when you should add an extra supplement?

No I haven't but I rarely exercise more than 30 minutes a day. I had never read that part about 45 minutes which makes me feel better about walking 3 miles instead of 1. I wouldn't want to give up my walking either. I think it helps my mood.

Thanks for suggesting I call nutrition support. They told me that the 45 minute rule only applied to vigorous exercise but no extra supp was needed. I wouldn't call my walks that. She did say that at this point in my weight loss, since it has slowed, 3 miles walking was fine regardless of the time it took. She also suggested I mix it up a bit which you have been doing and so have I with my stair climbing. Thanks again!.

Thanks for passing on the info, Biki. So are you going to start walking 3 miles now?

I think this information will help other people who are trying to decide whether they should exercise or not.

I think I will walk atleast 2.5, I like getting in the walking before it's too hot. But just put some sunscreen on and am going to go out and walk some more in a minute (sunscreen needs to sit 20 minutes to be most effective). Oh, and she did say it was okay for me to walk that much because I have been walking since December so I was used to it. So a newbie shouldn't start out doing 3 miles if they didn't have a walking program before. They should build up to it.

Thanks again, Biki. The couch to 5k program is a gradual build up to doing 3 miles. You start off walking/jogging under 2 miles, probably closer to 1.5 depending on your speed. There is a fitness challenge group doing the plan together on the mymedifast boards. That's where I first read about it.

Time to go do my last jog/walk of week 3!

Thanks, but I won't be doing any jogging or running anytime soon. Let me get the walking 3 miles everyday down first. I walk 2.8 fairly regularly if I do a morning Starbucks run and then an afternoon beauty supply store visit or just the Starbucks across the street from it. Remember, I'm old and smoke! Not running material.

I used to do my eliptical all the time...the problem is that on MF the eliptical wipes me out. But when I was faithful with it - anytime I did my treadmill I had to jog in order to feel like I was getting the same workout. I hadn't jogged in years - and to think a couple of months ago I was able to do it for 15-20 minutes - far cry from 3 miles but it was still something. Need to get back there.
