newbie starting soon

Postby Hopebaby » August 4th, 2007, 8:09 am

Hi everyone! I have been reading here for a few weeks and learning a lot. I ordered my MF food and it arrived Thursday. I have to wait until this Thursday, 8/10 to start because I have a house full of company and I don't feel strong enough to start a diet while cooking for a crowd.

This forum has been very helpful to me and I am glad I found it before starting. Because of what I have read here I decided to take Friday and Monday off and give myself a leisurely 4-day weekend when I start. I want to make sure I do everything I can to get a good start.

I went out this morning and bought some Davinci SF syrups, some Miralax, some Equate brand Lactaid, some salad spritzer, and some SF jello cups. I got some frozen veggies and will get salad fixins later in the week so they are fresh. I still need to get some lean meats and veggie burgers. I will probably start with chicken breasts and veggie patties because I feel safe with both of those. Oh and I still need pickles and celery. I've been checking out the Lean Cuisine section too and copied off some recipes to try with the MF supplements.

Ok, here is a little personal info about me: I am 58, divorced, 2 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren. I work full-time and live alone. In some respects that makes dieting easier since I don't have to cook for anyone else usually but it is also easier to cheat.

I only started gaining since my mid-40s and it has been pretty steady. I gave up cigs in Feb of 2006 and that contributed to the last 20 pounds of my extra padding. I need to lose 50 pounds for health but I want to lose 70. Diabetes is a killer in my family for 3 generations and so far I am the only one for 3 generations who does not have full-blown diabetes. This year I got the label of pre-diabetic and a stern warning so I am trying to beat it back and hold it off. My cholesterol was unacceptable too but I have it down now with meds and giving up the cigs. My blood pressure has been rising but I've been told to lose weight and it will be okay.

Even though I was thin until mid-40s I have battled weight since my teens and did all kinds of crazy things to stay thin. In fact, I am ashamed to say, I started smokin at age 18 because my smoking friends told me it would help me stay thin. It did until I hit menopause.

OK, enough for now. I will start a journal soon and I hope you all will help me get going and keep going because I need support!

Congrats on making the decision to join us. You are doing the right thing by setting yourself up for success with not starting while the temptation will be in the house. Keep your mind focused on what you want, start by remembering its only 3 hours til the next meal and before long it'll be "I can't believe its meal time already" that you are saying.

Good luck to you and get after it.

Welcome. I noticed you're getting veggie burgers. Good choice. Another suggestion that is approved and I find much tastier is the Morningstar Farms sausage links. They are small but you get to eat 6. My husband is a vegetarian and we fight over them!

Thanks for the welcome Brian and Biki!

And Biki, thanks for the heads up about the sausage links. I love sausage links but have never tried the MSF ones. I will look for them. I'm thinking I can build-a-meal of 1/2 serving of eggs and 1/2 serving of the links. I used to make a breakfast skillet from sliced links, onions, mushrooms, peppers, hashbrowns (sigh, no more of those), and eggs. Now I can make this the lean way.

We have done this type of things a few times. Joelie (another board member) and I love to eggs this way and add some more veggies on the side. Makes a good lunch or dinner for us.

Welcome Hope,

I'm with you on the diabetes in the family thing. Took my dad and an uncle and was on its way to taking me. I stopped it by losing weight and eating healthy (using Medifast now).

Glad you are here. If you need anything, this is a great place to come for help. All of the folks on here are great!

On the MSF patty, according to the Medifast Meatless options file I downloaded, it says 2 patties for the L&G. There are lots of different meatless options listed. We posted that and the Quickstart Guide L&G guidelines in our office area.

Unca posted the meatless options file in this thread:

Hope this helps

I don't see how her question had been answered since the sausage patties and regular patties are NOT the same. They are different sizes.

Hi Lasi - thanks for the welcome. It looks like you are doing really well! I hope the scale is as nice to me the first couple of weeks!

Do you have any pointers/suggestions for my first few days?

Thanks dmhearts - I am happy to be here! I am raring to go and wish I didn't have to wait several more days. I did consider starting this weekend anyway but I really want to be able to take it easy if I need to. I also want to be able to pamper myself and be totally selfish and not have to cater to my grandchildren when I start. I love them dearly but will be ready to take them home this week!

It looks like you are doing very well! Good job!

Actually you are correct on that Biki. The meatless options doesn't list exactly, the sausage patties. It does say 6 MSF sausage links (with 1 additional fat serving needed), or 2 cups of the MSF sausage crumbles (same fat category).

Boy have I been not paying attention to the variety of MSF and Gardenburger choices. I remember seeing about 5 options... seems there are alot now.

I would look at the correlation between these two listed and the sausage patties and go from there.
