Taszi17,

Try not to let the scale get the best of you. You've only been on this diet for a short period of time, and everyone's body reacts differently. If I remember correctly, your ticker stated something like 13 lbs in 4 weeks which is over 3 lbs per week. The metamucil is NOT going to affect your weight loss so don't fret about that ... it's fiber, not a traditional carb. If you continue on the plan, to the letter, you will lose ~ plain and simple. If you go for 4 weeks in a row without losing the avg 2-4 lbs per week, then you should worry. I would not recommend the six shakes per day unless you're being supervised by your MD. I began omitting my snacks and replacing my bar with a lower carb meal replacement and my weight loss has really increased. Take it one day at a time and you WILL lose.

Taszi17 wrote:Hey guys I am venting here. :x I am really ticked off today. My scale has been stuck at 191.5 since Sunday. And today it went up to 193. I don't get it I am not cheating and I am drinking my water and last week was a slow week. I am sooooooo frustrated I am ready to cry. I don't know what to do. I feel like my body is just not wanting to get out of those 190s and it just really suxs. I just can't believe that on a 800-1000 calorie a day plan I manage to gain weight ughhhh I am just so mad. The only thing that I have changed is adding Metamucil tablets to my day and the dose is 5 but that has 3 carbs so I only take 2. I can't imagine this has caused it. Please help me get through the 190s I am so upset about this and just think this is one more time that I am going to fail and it is so upsetting. Tell me what should I do. Should I go to 6 shakes a day for the rest of the week and no problem I will do it but if I do can I have a bar or is it strictly 6 shakes??? Help please :(

Sheila,

OMG, Mag Citrate! At the hospital, when the Doc orders Mag Citrate, all the nurses run for cover cuz there's gonna be a blowout and it WON'T be pretty. This is a high-powered laxative that I would not recommend for the faint of heart b/c you can create a considerable electrolyte deficiency. Last week, I had a patient that went for hours and hours ...

sheila wrote:Hey, I too have been there, ani sux, you re right. But it will get better. I thought about taking metamucil or something for const. but instead, I bought a bottle of magnesium citrate from the drug store. It tastes BAAAAD, but sure does work. You have to drink the whole bottle, but i like to pretend I am drinking a sprite. But its not something you would want to use everyday. It mainly used for occasional const. I looked on the bottle, it didnt have any carbs or anything listed on it, so I am unsure about that.

Vacationak ... You may not get the most favorable responses but I hope that you won't decide to leave. This is an open forum and all opinions are welcome. Just b/c your opinion may not be mainstream doesn't mean that it's not a worthwile point to consider. I love MF, but if you don't then that's okay.

No, Ark ...no blowouts here... , I just know it works for me, and its not something I would do often, like I said. And it isnt for everyone. Just trying to be helpful, but I guess to each his/her own.

You guys are great thank you so much Faslisamarie. I have a feeling I have fallen back into the ol letting the scale ruin my day mode. Of course I didn't think I had since I have only been getting good results up until now but one snag and I am a total wreck. I have pulled myself back up and calmed my husband down who read the post and got really worried about me being on this. I admit it scared me too. I think every diet screws with your metabolism maybe this one does more than others but I feel like if I can just get to where I want to be I can deal with that and build it back up. I am only going to weigh on Sunday now and this Sunday will be my 1 full month on the plan. I just so wanted to be like the commercial and lose the 20 pounds in the first month. You guys have been so supportive and I really appreciate it :) I have a feeling that maybe vacationak was a little ticked off at the lack of response she got in the maint forum. I hope that she gets what she needs to. Right now I am focusing on the facts which are that in 26 days I have lost 12.6 pounds and no I am not changing that ticker to 192.6 unless that is what it is on Sunday I absolutley refuse hehehehhehe. It usually takes me around 2 months to lose 13 pounds so I am trying to stay positive and upbeat. Thank you so much all for your support and I want to let you know that I didn't cheat at all I went to my moms house and vented and came home and had my L/G which was pork chop and fresh spinich. Thank you again guys I can't wait till Sunday to weigh in and give you a good result. It almost feels like I let everyone down ya know it is weird but I know you don't feel like that it is just one of those emotions people with weight issues have. Thanks again and have a fabulous day I am off to have my 2 Metamucil tablets my Centrum Complete and my Dutch Chocolate shake and boogie my way right on into Sunday with a positive attitude :)

Taszi17, I'm glad you're venting here instead of in the fridge or pantry! You're gonna make it girl!!

As for the post from vacationak, I am REALLY glad for the posts that came AFTER that post! I read that and started "thinking", wondering if I was going to really mess up my metabolism...and I've seen the results!!! The valid truth is, this is a vitamin rich, muscle sparing plan. Starvation robs the body of vitamins and destroys muscle. THANK YOU for pointing all of that out!!! Muscle is what burns calories...therefore this plan CAN NOT destroy your metabolism. PHEW! What a relief! If anything, it should enhance your metabolism. Then I was thinking about the slowed down weight loss towards the end of the weight loss phase...No matter WHAT diet you are on, the losses will slow towards the end! That's just the way it is...especially for us ladies who were created to "hold on to weight" so we can nourish our young.

As far as bashing Nancy, well, angry people lash out. I pray Nancy doesn't take any of that to heart and sees that she helps SO MANY MORE people than she "offends".

Keep Shakin! :)

Taszi,

hey girlfriend, you know we started this program at the same time and have kind of become mf buddies, and I just have to say,

Hang in there !!!!

we can do this, I am going through the same thing, but just remember that our bodies like to hang on to our fat. They are programmed from the beginning of time, when the cavemen were very skinny to hang on to every ounce of fat, just in case it was needed when food supplies were slim.

We are just having to re-program our bodies, just as we are reprogramming our minds.... Let is work itself out...

There is no way, on 800-900 calories a day, that you will not lose weight, it will happen, sometimes it takes a little longer for it to get the message, but it will happen.

I have seen no weight loss this week either, but it will come, I am not giving up. Don't you either.

Remember, We can DO this....

Terri

Taszi,

Probably by the time you read this, your little stall will be over. But I just want to tell you......stay on plan, drink your water........and you will get results. Everyone here knows that I have had several long plateaus.....the longest was 14 days! The good news is that I have still managed to lose 78 pounds in 6 months.....gee...let's see....that adds up to an average of 3 pounds a week.....just about in the middle of the Medifast promise. Please don't get discouraged each time the scale stays put or even goes up a little. It's perfectly natural....it's your body doing what it does. Your job is to stick to the program so that you don't have to ask yourself if that extra snack, little bite of stuff, or extra bar, is what caused the stall. Sticking to the program will help you be confident that you are not causing the stall by your actions.

You know how I deal with plateaus? I live my life and stick to the program. I don't cut out my bars, or switch to all shakes....none of that. I just continue my program and have patience knowing that I am compliant. That's it. I have learned not to dwell on the scale number even though I do weigh every day. Patience will come with time.

One little pointer about your ticker from a seasoned pro: If you are compliant, don't count the little ups. I never never never readjust upward after a loss even though the scale bounces around for a few days after, hehe.

I feel I must respond to Vacation's post, because just as she has the right to post whatever she wants to post, I too, have the right to defend this program and the absolute best Health advisor that I have been able to find. To hint that Nancy is not involved enough is absurd. She is always a phone call away....always available unless she is sick or traveling! I have emailed her and always get a response within hours...not days. She hosts the chats because we asked for chats, not because she's getting paid extra.

I have visited other forums. The Health Advisor at another forum in particular, shows up about twice a month to scold the members for posting the wrong things. Then she disappears again, not to be heard of until she comes back to tell someone they've given wrong information. Once in a blue moon, she will post a motivational type message that is quite like the last one she posted.....could even be a copy/paste thing. I haven't checked.

I was truly blessed to find this forum and Nancy. I won't go as far as to say they are the reason I've done so well, because I was so motivated for lots of reasons. But I will say that this forum and Nancy's great personality and caring actions have made this journey downright enjoyable!

I think Robin and others have covered the other issues perfectly, so I'll just say "what they said".

Love to all,
jo

I forgive you hehhe.

Yep I think I am going to have to have my hubby hide the scale as some of the other members have done. I thought I could do it but the one time it hasn't been in my favor I went all crazy lady.

Thanks guys for the encouragement and I am chugging the water today in hopes that the up I saw on the scale was water weight and I can flush it on outta there

Hey Taszi don't feel bad, I was 100% compliant for a month and only lost 12 pounds. Some people just lose differently. I look at it this way: At least I lost!!!

As for what Vacationak said, hey it's ok to have your opinion, I hope you don't leave just because of that! And Nancy, if you noticed, has stated that she is taking a steroid. I know for a FACT that steroids make people gain weight, a LOT LOT LOT of weight. My aunt's ex-boyfriend found out he had some arthritis and it was getting really bad, so bad that they put him on steroids like those. He went from being a tall, skinny guy to a HUGE man about 300 pounds I think, and it is from the medication.

I think Nancy is fighting hard to maintain her weight because of the meds, so you shouldn't go blaming the program. I applaud her in her efforts, she has done wonderfully so far with what is happening with her. :clapclap:

Finally, realize that this diet is called "Medifast"... short for "medical fast", which is why I am doing it. It is fasting but without losing muscle tissue and still giving your body all the nutrients and vitamins it needs. Fasting is NOT bad for your body, people have done it for hundreds if not thousands of years for religious or spiritual purposes. Even in the bible didn't somebody fast for 40 days or something? I doubt that person blew up to a blimp after resuming eating. :)

It's all a matter of controlling your eating behaviors after you get off program. If you continue to overeat, you will gain it right back. I'm lucky in that I am NOT an overeater, mine is from eating while pregnant only (yes, the pregnancy hormones really do make you eat more AND store fat, look it up) so I am not worried about gaining it back, I won't.

Taszi,
My "stall" was 13 days long...I weighed every time I peed and made myself CRAZY! I knocked on a co-workers hotel room door at 2am and handed him the scale with strict instructions not to give it back until Sunday.

I did as you did and posted and got support. You are stronger than your body...you can wait it out. You can win the staring contest! It'll be okay! I'm just so proud of you for posting not cheating and I know you will get through this!

Hmmmm

Postby Jan » April 27th, 2006, 9:27 pm

Hmmmm.
Well, this is going to be "short and sweet" because I am tired and have quite the headache. Please dear members remember that it's easy to write satements and declare them as "cold hard facts" Let the research determine what is right and wrong -- not opinions. We can all spout opinions -- a have a few of my own  The only reason I'm even responding is because Nancy happens to be a close friend of mine. We spend lots of time together and are both on maintenance -- here's the "shocker" We go to Red Robin and order big hamburgers and fries plus a soda, and we eat it all. Do we do this everyday ???-- no anyone surely realizes if we continued to eat like this everyday our friend fat would be right back!! There is no magic pill or program when it comes to weight loss and weight losss management -- only portion control and making good choices the majority of the time keep us where we want to be. It's a simple as that.
Now as to my advice -- you know what I'm going to say -- hide that nasty old scale -- and don't worry.

Hey all,

I still feel like a newbie ...so I don't wanna get all technical or quote anything .Because I am still learning.
I just wanna put my two cents in.

I have done it all.Every diet out there.
Just last feb. I went to a vitamin store and the guy sold me a diet pill for like body builders to boost my metabolism .HOly Moly...Sent my fat body into a fenzy.
My blood pressure was 160/120 at one point .I have bought other diet pills that they advertise on TV and the same thing happened.

I tried Adkins....only to get so super sick from it.
This program "MEDIFAST" is the only thing I have ever really stuck with (besides exercising) for more than 2 weeks.
Even on my plateau after only 8 days on the program,I had no desire to give up. My body feels healthier...I don't have that racing heart thing ,that blahk feeling .I feel wonderful

So ....even if I am not one of those people that loose extra fast...I feel like a completely new person and i am only on day 19.

Anyone...thats all i have to say about that..(HEHEHE Forrest Gump)
