Man, it has been a long time since I updated my journal.

I am still on MF, although to be honest, the last few months ended up more like maintenance instead of real weight loss. No excuses, just the way I worked the program.

I did finally solve a mystery that had been making my life pretty miserable. It turns out I am allergic to sucralose (Splenda). Bizarre, I know, but according to my internet research, not that uncommon.

I had been getting dry, rashy skin patches on my face for months which then progressed to full blown hives on my neck and cheeks. It was terrible and painful and frustrating. It took months to narrow my allergy down to sucralose because I never suspected it. Luckily, after 2 days of completely avoiding Splenda, my hives started to clear up. I still have some residual problems with my neck, but it is improving. Luckily, this allergy doesn't affect my MF diet in its pure form.

Besides that ordeal, things are really good. I am 100% compliant and moving in the right direction (down!) again.

Wow Jen!

I wonder if that's my problem? I have a rash between my nose and cheek. My doc took one look at it and said it was mild excema and gave me a cream that has done NOTHING...hmmm...maybe I should go splenda free for a few days and see what happens!

I'm glad to hear from you! I'm home all next week...free to get together sometime between Tuesday and Tuesday?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've had a mild rash on my neck and face for years that I keep at bay with steroid cream. But my Dr. doesn't have a clue what it could be caused by and I haven't been bothered enough by it to see a specialist.

I'm afraid to go off splenda for a few days because I don't want that to be the reason. What would I do?????

I'm more of an aspartame girl....I think the only thing I have splenda in is my SF jello? I'm going to have to start paying more attention.

Splenda was the last thing I suspected and I was shocked that it was the problem. Unfortunately, I don't want to use aspartame or saccharin either so I had to get used to unsweetened coffee. Not the biggest sacrifice in the world but not something I wanted to do at this time.

It's not the coffee. I drink my coffee black. It's my tea! I love sweet tea and have it several times/day. I know what I need to do. I need to test it and I will, but I really don't want to find out that it's splenda.

Questions: Does equal have sucralose in it? Cuz I could use equal. Just can't stomach sweet n low.

Did they do an alergy test or did you just find out by trial and error?

Equal is aspartame.

I figured it out through trial and error. Since my diet isn't very varied right now, I just eliminated stuff until I got to Splenda. Unfortunately, I wasted a bunch of time first suspecting lotions, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, laundry detergent, soap, hairspray, facial scrub, etc.
