what works for pulling out of a gloomy mood

Postby Joy » October 13th, 2007, 8:09 pm

I have been on MF for over 100 days and I am so near my half way point, 30# club and getting below 180! I am not often needing to ask for help with my mood, but I have been very gloomy about my slow weight loss these last two weeks which included a stall!

I have tried to be grateful for my nearly 30 lbs loss so far and the improved health benefits I now have, yet I keep all my focus on the scale!

regards,
joy

Joy, all that I can tell you is that stalls happen and sometimes they last for a long time. You can be doing the program perfectly but all of a sudden the scale refuses to budge or will bounce up and down .5 or 1# for 10 to 14 days.

When and if this happens to you......don't get discouraged, don't give up, don't give into temptation to toss your hands up and say "I may as well go off program because this sure as heck isn't working to stick to program..." . It happens to everyone (or almost everyone) at some point.

Stick to program, just focus on how far you've come so far and you will make it through these times. The scale numbers will begin moving again.

Wish I could offer something more helpful.....
Began MediFast 2/10/07 212#
Reached Goal 3/15/08 147#
Renewed commitment 9/20/09-after regaining 38# (185#)
Reached Goal 1/25/10 147# Maintaining :)

Joy,

We all get there at some point. I have struggled with weight issues my entire life... heck, I was 460 lbs at one point. I recognize that NOTHING has ever helped me like this program.

Hang in there, happier days are ahead.

Pre WLS 460
Low after WLS 300
Start of MF 350
Previous MF low 280
Restart MF 330

When I stall or gain, what works for me is gratitude. I look at my fat pics. I look at the old journals (I keep a daily written journal) I have where I weighed 40 pounds more than I do now. I remind myself that I am still on the path even if things have slowed down a bit. I remind myself that as long as I am compliant there is nothing else I can do except be patient.

Thank you each very much -

Hearing "hang in there and be patient " is so helpful. I am going to focus on how far I have come and be grateful I am here now healthier and slimmer.

I am glad you are here to offer a lift! ;)

sincerely,
joy

Good morning Joy,

Sorry you're feeling a little gloomy over the slow down in your weight loss. My loss has slowed down a little too recently, and there are some days when when thrilled is not exactly a word I'd use to describe my feelings.

One thing I've done is look at longer periods of time. The first time I did MF, I chose to focus on monthly losses to see progress, no matter how big or small.

Currently, I'm giving myself a 100 day challenge (to get me going on a restart). I created a journal with 10 pages and 10 days on each page. On the bottom of each page I record the loss over 10 days. Granted, 3 lbs. in the last 10 days isn't huge, but it's a loss to feel good about.

Finally, and I think most helpful, I think more about the future than I do about where I've been or what I've done. I imagine how much better I'm going to look and feel on New Years Eve, this spring, this summer... And regardless of the amount of progress, I'm definitely going to see smaller sizes, less pounds, and feel great.

Different things work for different people. I hope this helps.

Hang in there, you're looking great, and soooooo close when you look at the big picture of your life ahead of you. :D

Another tip you might consider is start taking measurements because if you started exersizing at all you might be gaining muscle and muscle is ~7x heavier than fat but 3x smaller.

Wonderful idea and when I go to my doc's on the 25th he takes my waist and hip messurements. Guess I can do it myself and have the good news early.

Thank you Yworry!
