just did some more reading on high-protein diet and kidneys. Seems that lots of ANIMAL protein is the clincher. And since most of my protein comes from SOY and WHEY I'm feelin' good! Several studies I just read said that these protein/kidney problems only seem to occur in people with preexisting kidney trouble.
Gotta run to the BBQ and OD on ANIMAL protein!

Hey Everyone. I am new. I have been on MF for 3 weeks. Did get off plan for about a week but am completing my third MF week. I have lost 9.5 pounds.

Principessa, I think 15 in 2 weeks is awesome! Also I have read a number of women on the MF website mention that around week 3 they have a lull and then the next week they'll have a good dip, so hang in there. Also, have you thought about taking measurements to gage your loss. Sometimes that helps me when the scale is slower than I'd like.

Also, for those stuggling to get in the 5th, are you having 3 supplements by 2 pm? Seems like I read somewhere that you should get 3 in by 2 pm.

Finally, I am reminded that it is better to reach for an extra supplement than to stray for food. That helps. I know we are supposed to only have one bar but sometimes I need another at night. And I figure that an extra bar is better than beer and pizza! Only do that once or twice a week though.

All the posts are so helpful. The ones who are losing and the ones who are struggling, helps to know there are others going thru the same thing!

Looking forward to being in the #10 club soon! :D

Confession Time

I went off plan at the BBQ. Had WINE. Oops! And too much of it. Like 3 glasses. Also had an extra 2 oz of my "lean", no greens (there weren't any), two mozzarella balls, and about a slice of bread (torn off pieces - harder to estimate) with some creamy spinach dip. I was a bad girl. Had a tiny bit of a hangover this morning, but it's fading, and the MF Minestrone Soup is makin' my tummy feel better. Also, the BBQ was fairly early, and I still had 2 MF supplements to go for the day, but when I got home I just went straight to bed. Figured I'd just chalk it up as a bad day all around and start new today. I DID manage to avoid the desserts that were there... so that's good. And honestly, I don't think that the eating was THAT bad. For the most part I ate things in moderation compared to what I may have done in the past. Okay... the wine wasn't in moderation but I've certain had times where I drank MORE than that! I'm sure that the wine and the bread threw my body out of ketosis, and we'll see how the next three days go as I get back to that point.

Good news is that at no point did I feel like I was going to abandon MF for more than this one meal. I didn't think to myself, "okay, you blew this one... might as well just go to that drive-thru you've been thinking about all week since you blew it today!". I knew that I was going to limit my sins to that one evening at the BBQ.

I also felt like, "Hey, this wouldn't be so bad to do maintenance like this! I can do MF on some days, have a bit of a splurge, go right back on... " When I'm at goal 50lbs. from now, I can plan ahead for the BBQ, have a few totally MF days in preparation, and then a few after. I've been trying to get it through my brain that MF is going to be with me for life... I'm going to be like Nancy and regularly use the products when I'm at goal. And her rule of not eating poorly for two days in a row is a good one. It allows some splurges, but doesn't let you go hog wild and stray too far.

Other bad news. It only took me 2.5 weeks on MF to burn out the motor on my brand-spankin'-new smoothie machine that I got as a shower gift the weekend before I started MF! I need some good advice on a really powerful blender to make my shakes nice and thick (I guess I liked to use too much ice!). I was lovin' using that thing. Loved the shakes all blended up with tons of ice. :( I need somethin' industrial strength!

heathhes - I didn't take measurements before I started... but I am regularly gaging my progress with the clothes in my closet. I won't have to buy new things until I lose more than four sizes, so all those thinner clothes are a good measure. And for alot of them I can remember when it was that I COULD wear them, so it's fun to turn back the clock!
Also, I do get in at least 3 supplements before 2pm. I have 1 around 6:30am, another around 9:30am and another around noon. Then it's usually a bar around 3pm, dinner around 7pm and one more supplement before bed if I don't zonk out on the sofa accidentally!

Just got an e-mail from my fiancé. I wrote to him last night before going to bed about my mess up. Bless his soul... he said all the right things this morning!

Baby, it's not a big deal what you did! You had a little bit of stuff you were
not supposed to, oh well. It's nothing to worry about. You're all worried, when all
you have to do today is wake up and eat what you're supposed to. That's it. What
if you don't lose as much as you're supposed to this week? Oh well. Just do not beat
yourself up over it. If you do that, then this whole thing is going to be like a big trauma.
Last night I was telling Vero about the diet and stuff and she said that she was very
proud. The only thing she said was that she would do stuff like what you did yesterday.
My point is that there's NOTHING to worry about. Today you wake up and keep going,
period.

Love that boy!

Donna, thank you for the kind words. I am not sure all of my students would agree with the positive shining. Sometimes, I am definitely not POSITIVE. I do love teaching, though.

By the way, if you like the Scandalous Grace book, Julie has several others also. The book after Scandalous is called Radical Forgiveness, and I think that book is Julie's 2nd best book. Her first best book is definitely her first book which is called She's Gonna Blow, which I would highly recommend to any mother. It is fantastic. (Hey and if you ever want a book signed I have connections. :D )

Mary, keep your chin. We are definitely gonna have bumps along the way. That is just life. I like to say "SOMETIME LIFE JUST GETS IN THE WAY!" You have a great attitude about what to do next, which really shows your commitment and you should feel good about that.

After my little break from plan on Friday evening I'm just finishing up day 2 of getting back to ketosis. I'm feelin' the hungries, and my stomach has been a little queasy for the last few days. I guess it's because usually after a bunch of wine I stuff my stomach with greasy carby foods, and instead I've been dining on Minestrone and Chicken Noodle.

The good part about the break from plan is that it showed me that I can mess up for ONE meal and still jump right back on track. I didn't use the break from plan as an excuse to keep overindulging. I woke up... made some soup, and drank my water. The other lesson learned is that if I make another break from plan it had better be worth it since I'll have to pay the price of going out of ketosis.

Also... with the hungries I couldn't help it and couldn't stay off the scale today, and I was rewarded for it! At weigh-in this morning I weighed 165.0 down 0.6lbs from last week (I'm not blaming Friday night for the slow weight-loss this week... it was stalled or even HIGHER during the few times I jumped on the scale during this past week and jumped off before the final reading when it looked like it was going to be higher). Well this afternoon after a nap (best defense for me against the hungries!) I found that the scale read 163.8! I'm not counting that reading because it wasn't at my usual time, but hopefully it means that I'm in for a great week!

Arrghh... missed a supplement yesterday when I feel asleep watching TV. Can't do that!
Feels good though to be on day 4 after my slip on Friday. Back into ketosis, having gotten rid of the hungries. Also haven't been as good as I should have been with the water for the past two days. I've had enough FLUID... but some of it was diet soda. I'll work on being better with that today.
Had the biggest craving for HOTDOGS yesterday. A hotdog just sounded soooo freaking good! Didn't give in to the hotdog craving, but I sure wanted them. Wondered if I could cook up a few fat-free or light hot dogs and eat them without the bun. Then I thought about the extra carbs that are in alot of fat-free products. Probably not a good idea. Might have to investigate the labels though... if the craving comes back a bunch this week.
I know I don't NEED the hot dog. I know it's a craving. But I'm going to have to deal with cravings for the rest of my life, so I guess it's good to start thinking about the healthiest option possible for satisfying those cravings so that I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. But I guess I should just ignore the cravings for now. Mmmm.... a hotdog sounds so good though!
BUT, far more satisfying than a hotdog is the fact that I'm wearing old clothes from my closet that are a size down from where I started. I can squeeze into some clothing that is TWO sizes smaller. That feels great! Guess I'd better just forget about the hotdogs for now!

Mmmmmm.... hotdogs (a la Homer Simpson)

Ladies, About them hot dogs.... A couple of days ago my husband fixed himself some hot dogs for lunch. When he finished I happened to pay attention to what he was eating. 4 hot dogs with buns and a big helping of potato chips! When I asked him why so much he said that was the last of the packages and he didn't want to leave a little to go to waste so he fixed them all. That's a mans logic for you. Meanie that I am I dug the packages out of the garbage and added up the calories for him. 1120+ calories and 67 grams of fat! Poor man, He was mortified and a little ill for the rest of the day. He won't do that again. Think about that and you will probably loose your craving. I did! Horsey Girl

Thanks horsey, I will never eat another hotdog again........ :sadblue:

Just kidding. I never really liked hotdogs anyway. Unless they were roasted over a camp fire. Something about a camp fire that makes everything seem good.

WARNING: CONTAINS DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF FOODS OFF PLAN!

I'm bored with the program. I know it's temporary, and I don't really want to cheat, but I miss eating the way I used to. I don't miss the side-effects... the carb coma, the weight gain and water retention... etc... but I'm just feeling a little bored with the whole thing. I like the supplements... I like that I can have a lean and green... but I'm feelin' lazy. I don't want to prepare the lean and greens (I know, I could find lean and greens that don't take much prep, or I could do a full fast for a few days....). But I just want the ease of going to the drive thru.

I miss fast food. I love the taste. I know that for some they just ate it because it was convenient and filling… but I love it! Okay… guess I’m no gourmet… but I love it! I miss it… and I mourn the loss of my friendly drive-thru window. Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Taco Bell… love them! Miss ordering a quarter pounder with cheese (with additional bacon when it's a choice) with the upsized order of fries (missed the option of SUPER sizing when they took that away!). Miss coming home and gorging myself on it… even though sometimes I would realize as I was half way through that I was feeling pretty full. It just tasted so good to me! Okay... maybe it didn't taste THAT good, but I did really enjoy it.

And I miss pizza. I really, really, really hope that fast food doesn’t satisfy my cravings as much as I think it will when I try a little sampling of it after I reach goal. Before I started on Medifast I had a week that I considered to be my “Mardi Gras”. I gorged on my favorites… and I keep thinking about one favorite that I didn’t manage to get in BMF (Before Medifast). I didn’t stop by a little sandwich shop that specializes in Philadelphia Cheesesteaks. I want one. The gooey melty cheese they would use was sooooo freaking good. With a nice big order of cheese fries. It used to take TWO sittings in an afternoon to get through my “medium” cheesesteak and fries… but I loved it! I missed out on that indulgence during my Mardi Gras. But it’s my own personal Lenten period now… no cheesesteak for me! Mardi Gras is over for the year, and next year it will come again.

Just really wishing that I didn't have these cravings right now.
