Really hungry today.

Postby ascicles » April 4th, 2006, 11:42 am

All day, I've been really hungry. This is strange because I've yet to feel a lot of hunger since I started the plan...even during the initial three days. Is there a chance that I've somehow knocked myself out of ketosis (I didn't break the plan, although I did drink two cups of bouillon yesterday). Otherwise, is it normal to get randomly hungry after being on the plan for what has now been close to a month?

I'm not worried about cheating or anything, it's just a bit annoying.

Hey, Ascicles-

Yep, totally normal. It doesn't happen often (thank god!), but every once in a while I'll just be ravenous. I tell myself it's in my head, but my belly doesn't agree! :-)

I don't think it has anything to do with ketosis, I think our bodies just have cycles, and things fluctuate. I just drink water, and then have hot drinks, like tea, to trick myself into thinking I am eating. If I am really struggling, I may have a cucumber or pickles, and I also drink more diet soda - for the flavor. Also, do something, anything, to kill time. Go for a long walk, or start some activity - anything to take you away from watching the clock.

It's such a cruel joke, right? You're just minding your own business, feeling great, losing weight, no problem, and then, one day, out of the blue, you are starved! ha! I think it's designed to keep us on our toes!

Just sit tight, Ascicles, it never happens to me two days in a row...

That's good to know. Normally if I am hungry (which is rare), I'll just make a bowl of bouillon...but since I am stuck at work, I don't have that option. Maybe I can buy a pickle at the store across the street...but those things are kind of big. I wonder if they are allowed.

Not sure what kind of store is across the street, but if they have pickles, they may have bouillon! You can always cut it in half, also.

Besides, getting out of the office just to cross the street might help...

No bouillon, it is just a tiny gas station. They did have pickles though...so I bought one of the smaller ones. Hopefully it will ease my hunger a little bit.

I've had a couple of days like these just come out of nowhere. SF gum and mints really help, as well as, the teeth brushing trick.

Yes, usually when it happens, I have a big loss the next day or the day after that. Just imagine it's your body trying to trick you into eating more calories before it decides to give in and shed that weight, lol.

I was going to say the same thing, Linda. Usually I get hungry right before I show a loss (not a BIG loss in my case, but I never have those).

Although once in a while it's just completely random. Bottomless pit for a day or two (you might bring some Jell-O or something tomorrow, in case it continues), then back to normal after that. I usually have a little Jell-O, if I'm home, or some sugarless gum if I'm not. Or if it's really bad, I have an extra supplement or try spacing 'em closer together for a while.

Hmmm, I certainly hope I have a big loss tommorow. I had my best week yet last week (10 pounds). I have steadily lost a half a pound every single day for the past 4 days. I don't have a problem with this at all, but if I could see a bigger jump tommorow, I would be really happy.

Me too,

I get ravenous the day before I "drop" 4 or 5 lbs! I can handle the hungries for those kind of results!

Good luck! My convenience store just started carrying those little pickles in the little bags (single serving). It was awesome! Although, the 2nd time, I don't think they were in the fridge the whole time and it got a little...interesting. But I digress again!

You're doing great! Passed me like I was standing still!

Well, the hunger was gone today, but I actually GAINED a pound. I think it had to do with eating two cups of bouillon and a pickle yesterday. I used to bouillon to make a soup for dinner, so I think that much sodium late in the day may have caused a bit of a gain. Hopefully it will drop off tommorow.

Yep, that sounds like a lot of salt hehe. I'm sure it'll be gone by tomorrow as long as you drink your water. :)

Another thing to keep in mind is that sugar substitutes can upset your stomach and stimulate your appetite. While on the 5 and 1 my wife would sometimes have too much sugar free gum and would feel hungry for a day afterword.
