Program or On Your Own?

Postby lgs2621 » October 17th, 2006, 7:12 am

I have been reading this board and have decided that Medifast could be for me. Was wondering whether the benefits of a formal program (weigh in, classes, etc.) justify the expense or whether more of you do it on your own (with the help of this board, of course). I do not have medical problems and would be doing the 5-1 rather than a full fast. I have about 30 pounds to lose. Also, like many of you here, I have dieted much in the past so am knowledgeable about nutrition, etc.--I just don't always apply what I know! Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've done fine without local support or meetings. In fact, I stayed away from WW because of the meetings. I have just found MF to be the best plan for me and after I decided to do it, I didn't need anyone watching me weigh in.

Everybody is different, though. Only you know what you need.

I love the board because I can be accountable to everyone here, and be encouraged, but would never join a support group. I like the board because I can do it anytime I want.

For me, this forum totally rocks!

I've tried WW, about 4 or 5 times  and seriously, nothing is easier than medifast.... i get on the forum a million times, and it keeps me motivated. (it's like an addiction!! )

Seeing the results immediately really helps, and the meals are already measured so there is no counting points, measuring, or tracking in a diary (unless you want to)... so it's super easy. The food doesn't taste bad, and the portions are pretty good...

Hope this helps! good luck on your MF journey and know that this forum is there for ya! (cuz they're sure here for me!!!) :D

I had about the same weight to lose as you - and I'm almost to goal!

I have done WW, J. Craig, LA Weight Loss, and Atkins - this one is the best and fastest by far! And there really is support here 24/7!

Good luck! You made the right choice!

Everyone's different. I did WW a few times in the past, but I never enjoyed the meetings and I especially didn't like the weigh-ins. Some people like those things, though.

I much prefer doing this online, so I can post on my own schedule and report my weight only if I choose to.

On your Own???
No way .. we are all right here to help you along the weight loss journey.
Plus if you decide to have a Health Advisor -- they're free -- that person will check on you personally, answer questions and address concerns.
That means you have your own personal coach!! Plus of course we have free Dr. calls -- you can ask questions-- it's a conference call as well as free nurse calls -- again a conference call -- so you'll learn alot. In addition you can take contact the nurse or nutritionist for individual questions. Seeee there's lots here. And, someone is here for you 24 hours a day. How could it get any better???

both seem to work

Hi, I belong to a MF "official" store. I haven't heard of any classes, and just weigh in and get counseled every week. It seems to me from reading all of the posts on this site that this should be just as beneficial to you, and a lot cheaper!
The only thing I love about my program is a cool machine they have that shows ALL of your progress (body fat %, total lean fat, water %, etc)...
If I had known about this site before joining the program I did, I probably would have done it this way!

Hope that helps from someone who DID pay the big bucks!

Hi Linda and Welcome,

It is of course up to you, but in my never-to-be-humble opinion, those centers aren't worth the cost. They don't have the discounts like TSFL does, they don't have the BeSlim club for autoship discounts, and they don't have this GREAT forum!

TSFL offers FREE health advisors that are like personal cheerleaders and of course there's this wonderful forum which has been described like the cell phone commercial with the "network" following you around! I think it's the greatest and I wouldn't be where I am now without these people! The forum people instinctively know how to help. Let's say I post that I just went to Taco Bell (I'm not saying I did, but it could happen, and has!)...They know whether to cheer me up and give me a get on the horse speech or take the boots to me telling me I'm being self-destructive or scared of success again! They're the greatest!

I don't have the time to "go somewhere" (not to mention I'm probably in the wrong state anyway!) to get weighed and my progress checked. I would be very uncomfortable weighing in a group and don't think I would benefit enough from their "service" to justify the added cost.

Whatever you decide, I'm glad you've decided to take control of your health and weight! Good luck!
