Tonia~ by the way, I love the avatar. I'm sorry to hear you may not be able to stay on MF due to finances. I know how that goes. Maybe you can figure out a way. How long do you think you will have to stay off?

Definitely stick around here. We need YOU!!!! :you:

Thanks Donica! I'm not sure, we are just seeing the credit card bills adding up to too much, plus we had to pay stupid city taxes with a credit card. I think the taxes put us into the danger zone. :(

If hubby keeps working overtime (which he will) we should be back into normal in about a month I hope.

Thanks folks for noticing my new avatar! I don't know why it turned out reddish, but I like it! It makes my hair look redder hehe.

I am noticing all these posts on this board and the other Medifast one that people seem to think that fat is so bad for us. That is just not true, we NEED it. We are *allowed* up to 30% of our calories on this plan to be from fat, according to nutrition support. Go ahead and ask them if you don't believe me! We are *allowed* to use up to 1 TBSP of oil to cook our food! Me, I've been using a pat of butter instead, sometimes I use a teaspoon of olive oil to fry my zucchini.

I'm shocked that people don't pay attention to nutrition support or what is allowed and still cook their food with Pam, thinking it's better for them. Really, it's not. We do need some fat as I said before, it helps keep our skin and hair from drying out so horribly and it helps us poop!

We were led to believe in the 90's that lowfat is the way to go but it's not true, as doctors have found out yet are still a little red in the face and unsure of how to admit it to the masses. Extensive research has proved it. Do a web search and read "Adiposity 101" to see what I mean.

What is making us fat is excess carbs. All these cakes, cookies, breads, potatoes... A little is necessary but nature never intended us to eat cake every single day LOL, which is basically what most Americans are doing.

This plan is so *extremely* low in fat that adding a little is kind of necessary in my opinion, and as I said before totally acceptable according to nutrition support!

Anyway, I hope I enlightened somebody but now I have to go change ANOTHER poopy diaper! Jeesh I swear I can't wait till they are potty trained. OH wait, then I'll still have to wipe their butts for a while! ARGHHHH! ;)

Pashta;

I find the whole dietary fat issue interesting. My husband asks if he can cook my meat in butter and I shout "NO!" I use the ICBINB spray instead. All my fat is coming from the meat, I'd guess, and I try to stay away from too much red meat. I'm in a dangerous place with my eating right now so I'm not going to go adding in butter right now - but the whole fat thing is something to think about. I have been having awful dry skin and my hair is falling out again. Hmmmm....

The meat I use for my leans are so lean that even adding the butter doesn't bring the total anywhere *near* the limit of 20g of fat for the lean portion of our L&G.

With your issues though I would probably avoid the butter too, but we ARE allowed up to 1 TBSP of oil, preferably olive or canola to cook with daily.

I am so happy you brought this to everyone's attention, Tonia. Fat is also necessary for our bodies absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. The fat content we need for good health is not what got converted to flab!!

That is funny Merry Mary...I got a good chuckle out of that! I am fairly certain that I could come up with a few things that helped me flab!

Very interesting topic and I realize I am learning something new all the time. If I added the fat g from the meals themselves (minus the L&G) it seems to be around 10 or 11 gr of fat right? So that with the L&G that could be up to 20 or 30 g ?? I am trying not to count to much because I have enough in my life to obsess over (ha ha)..is that correct??

Yeah, nutrition support has stated this (I've gathered it from different posts and questions) for those of us who wish to count everything like I do:

The Lean portion should be between 245-350 calories, less than 5g of carbs, more than 35g of protein and less than 20g of fat.

Salad dressing should be less than 6g of carbs and fat per 2 TBS.

Less than 30% of our calories should be from fat, which is about 33g of fat for a 1000 calorie diet.

Daily intake of calories should be between 800-1000 calories, more than 72g of protein, between 80-100 carbs but 80-85 is the ideal and less than 2300 mg of sodium.

The protein to carb ratio should be 1 to 1.

So Pegann, according to Nutrition Support our Lean can be up to 20g of fat. When I ate the Burger King double stacker without bun and sauce (but WITH the cheese and bacon), I checked all the requirements on their nutritional info webpage. It was very close, it had 26g of fat but that is only 6 g higher so I went for it a few times, and it did not hamper my weight loss. :)

Tonia thanks for sharing all of this...this has been very enlightening...I cook with Pam out of habit but when I have broiled shrimp once or twice a week - I do brush them with olive oil. My salad dressings I tend to stay under the carbs and do not really do the fat free unless it's the balsamic vinagerette - I have found the fat free ones have way too many carbs. So I try to stick to the light ones. Thanks so much for the input.

Tonia~ I agree......I appreciate the information. I hadn't really put that much thought into the fat. I haven't been one to measure out everything, but you have sparked my curiosity. I think I will take a closer look at what I am taking in when it comes to my L & G.
