Howdy, Ice!

You have had a phenomenal first week ... :woohoo: ... and are off to a marvelous start!

I weigh myself daily--in the morning. I've learned I need that discipline to remain accountable. I'd find a weekly weigh-in stressful--don't ask me why.

Well, :goodluck: and welcome!

Thanks for all of the kind words and ideas everyone! I think I overdid my serving of chicken last night, because about 20 minutes after I was done eating, I got REALLY hungry. One of my favorite snacks from my "old" life was peanut butter m&ms, and I have an unopened bag sitting in my kitchen on a shelf. It was very tempting to just go and start munching on them, but I kept telling myself that I really didn't want to, and that was just my body striving to go back to it's old ways. In the end, my will power won, and this morning I could not be happier that I was able to survive the "test" :kool:

I honestly believe if you do not tempt yourself on "test runs", that when you are faced with a real-life situation, you won't have the strength to say no.

Anyway, I believe I am only going to weigh myself every 4 days. That way I will not give up hope if the numbers don't match what my mind says they should.

I know that it is stated that you should only have 2 pickle spears a day, but with there being almost no calories and no carbs in them, is there harm with having more than that?

Congrats on avoiding the m&m's. If I were you, I'd get rid of them. You'll have plenty of time for "tests" without putting your favorites there right in front of you.

It's very important to follow the program without making exceptions, even if they don't seem to matter. Don't give yourself permission to adjust the program and it will be much easier to stick to. The pickles have lots of salt. You do know what too much salt does, right?

To be honest, it helps my motivation to know that I can have something like that in the house and know that I can say "No" to them.

I have heard that salt makes you retain water, but it never has had that effect on me. That's ok though, you are absolutely correct in not altering the system. The end results are what I am looking forward to and anything that may impede or lengthen that needs to be avoided.

Thanks for the advice!!

Congrats on avoiding the M&M's ... especially since you had them available! I've done something similar. I started MF on Nov.6 and kept the leftover Halloween candy ( Chocolate, no less!) in the pantry. It helped my motivation to know that it was there (I was not deprived) but I could make the CHOICE to avoid it! :D Did the same thing when I quit smoking--I kept an OPEN pack of cigarettes around for a year. It was really empowering for me to be able to remain committed!
We each must do what works for us ... the bottom line is that once we are in maintenance we will have choices to make and we can't always protect ourselves from "temptation."

I wish you continued success!

WOW!!!

12 days on the program and I have lost 21 pounds! Is it me, or is this the BEST SYSTEM EVER INVENTED?!?!!?

After the first 5 or 6 days, I really had no craving for any food except salt, but a few pickle spears cured that quick. At least until today...

There was a huge Sales meeting in the Conference Room right outside my office's door, and they ordered a huge spread of food for their "Lunch N Learn". Corned Beef, Cabbage, salad, brownies, the whole nine yards and all the fixins. As the smell drifted in, I look at my co-worker and thought to myself "well, this inst good."

I took a stroll into the room next door, and looked at all of the huge containers of delicious food just waiting for me to grab a plate. The smell of all of that delicious....

But then something happened.

Someone offered me a plate, and I looked at him, smiled, and said "No, thanks".

"NO THANKS"?????? Here I am, I have been starving myself for two weeks now, I can just go and indulge in this tasty lunch and just start the program again on Monday. What's 3 days? No big deal...right? IT"S ONLY THREE DAYS!!!

I think something happened in that room today that really made me take a step back and understand exactly why I am doing this program to begin with. Whenever I look in a mirror, I do not like the person who is looking back at me. That person has made poor choices when it comes to eating & fitness, and he never thought about taking pride in his appearance or getting healthy so he doesn't have a heart attack before his 3 year old son graduates high-school.

Yeah, I don't like that guy very much at all. I know it is him in the back of my mind every time something smells good, or looks delicious, and he keeps whispering..."Go ahead, it won't matter. You know you want to..."

Well, I don't want to see that guy anymore. He makes me depressed whenever I catch a glimpse of him. I want to be happy. I want to look in that mirror with Pride. Pride. That is something I haven't felt in a loooooong time. It will be a nice change. A life-lasting change.

You guys are so great for what you do here. You give motivation and hope to people who have none. When someone wants to give up, you push them to go that extra mile, and instead they end up running a 10 mile marathon, smiling the whole way.

On behalf of everyone who may feel the same way I do, but may not have the means or ability to say so...

Thank you all, for helping me change my life, and I pray that I may do the same for someone else someday.
