Kelly...

I can't believe you lost more than nine pounds already!

I really hope you keep up this journal, too. You have a lovely voice that carries through the words on the screen and you almost have me inspired enough to begin one of my own :D

Have a great weekend!

Thank you for your comments, y'all.. :)

Whew! I made it through my first Shabbat on MF.. I literally just wet my lips with the wine and had a crumb of the challah. My mother in law made all the typical friday night fare.. smoked salmon, salade cuite, beet salad, swiss chard salad, huge braided challah breads, roasted chicken and for the vegetarians, potato puree and mozzarella, baked until it gets a brown crust.. (my whole mouth just filled with saliva thinking about it again)..

and just to torture me a little bit more, my sister in law baked an asparagus and cheese tart in a mille feuille crust. I could have strangled the lot of them as I sat there with my pathetic glass of water.. gritting my teeth and trying to keep a smile nailed on my face as they passed the food under my nose asking..

"but kellyyyyyyyyy, WHY COME DON'T YOU EAT? YOURE SICK??" (poor grammar added for effect, french is thier first language)

And then they proceeded to have an entire conversation about an oreo cheesecake that my brother-in-law forgot to bring, and they all wanted him to go home and pick it up.

Of course, it wasn't entirely necessary, because dear mom in law always goes to the bakery on fridays and picks up a ton of miniature cakes, tarts, eclairs, mille feuilles with creme anglais..

They were all high off all this stuff, nearly licking thier plates.. and occasionally remembering poor little me, with my glass of water, so they'd reassure me, telling me none of it tasted very good anyways!

of course, my 4yr old cousin pipes up and says they're all crazy, it was the best dinner ever. G-d bless her.

It was hard, but easier than I thought.
I was embarrassed to tell everyone about the diet, but I realized that everyone would know about it anyways (there are no secrets in our family.. sometimes a good thing, sometimes a bad thing ). So I went ahead and told them.

I'm excited about weigh-in tomorrow..!

Weigh-in day, and I am down 13.8 lbs.. happy about this, but I'm sure it was a one time thing.. I expect that it will begin to average out to 5ish pounds a week. Nonetheless, I am very happy about it, it gives me courage to get through another week.

I'm puzzled by my measurements though, I really suspect that I didn't measure properly when I did it the first time, or maybe I was sitting.. I don't remember. Anyways, I took them today and showed astounding difference.. from now on I will be sure to measure in the same places, I think they're pretty easy to remember.

Bust 60.5, down from 64.75
Waist 57, down from 62.5
Hips 63.25 down from 69

I really think I must have been measuring differently the first time, these number changes in a week can't be possible, can they??

On to non-diet related things..

Going to the botanical gardens this afternoon with my sis in law and nephew and our 4 year old cousin to see this exhibit "Butterflies go free".. I went last year with Jer, it is so beautiful! Jer liked it as a one time thing, but I am excited to go again.

Also, I am trying to toilet train our cats. They are approximately 2 years old (the SPCA was guessing on thier ages when we adopted them), so I am hoping they are young and bright enough to figure it out.

I bought this kitty training kit for like $20.. it's a clear plastic form that fits over the porcelein and under the seat, you fill it with litter, and every few days start putting less and less litter in it until there's none at all, and then you take the form away.

So I cleaned up thier proper litter box yesterday and put it in the garage.. and set up this thing on the toilet.. picking up the cats and setting them on the toilet and saying in a commanding but not stressful voice..

"THIS is where you POO.."

The instructions say to do this several times daily, so after the 3rd time or so, I had made up a little song, to the tune of Row your boat:

This is the toilet,
it is where you poo..
you can caca and go pee,
whenever you need toooooooooo

(ok so I'm no beethoven or brahms, but it entertained us all for the afternoon)

The kit came with "enticing herbs" which really don't seem to be living up to thier enticing potential.

"My" cat, Sir Baudelaire Skellington III (Bodey for short) caught on quickly, but "Jeremy's" cat, Casper van Peebles (Cas for short) is very VERY wary of the whole contraption.

Cas walks around the house making this terrible meowing sound, clearly VERY distraught that his litter box is no where to be found.. I have to chase him down and carry him to the potty, pushing his little paws into the litter so he understands. Regardless, he is just very grumpy about this entire turn of events.

Bodey on the other hand (who we generally, and lovingly, refer to as the stupid one) is perfectly happy to use this thing.

(wow, I just had this incredible feeling of patheticness.. how sad am I that toilet training my cats is the highlight of my weekend?)

I actually think that is REALLY cool! Potty trained cats isn't something you see everyday hehe. I'd like to know how it turns out for you so do keep us updated ok? :)

Yeah measurements are important because even if you don't lose much weight you may be losing in INCHES so I keep track and take measurements every few days.

The best way to measure is to take a few measurements and count the average. That's how the US Military does it so it's good enough for me! ;)

CONGRATS on your weight loss, that is very impressive!!

Kelly, awesome losses and my guess is that yes, the inches could have changed that much. Eating lots of carbs and not drinking a lot of water will make us feel and look more bloated........so in cutting back on the carbs, drinking more water........maybe those measurements were right on and you have lost that many inches.

You are doing excellent. My only suggestion is to keep documenting how you are doing, feeling and what obstacles you've overcome as you lose the weight so that you can look back on your journey and realize how hard you've worked so that you don't go off program before you've achieved your goals.

Congratulations on an excellent week!

You've had a great first week - I don't want to forget to say that!

But I was really amused by the potty-training. I tried the same thing almost 5 years ago - but my cats were not having any of it. They ranged in age from kitten to 7 at the time, though, so it was probably too late. I always say if I ever have kittens again I'll try it. So keep us posted!

Today officially started week 2..

I'm liking the bars for breakfast, it seems to be more lasting than having capp or hot cocoa or something and then a bar in the afternoon. I realized I like all the bars, especially the caramel nut, which is odd, since I typically hate caramel.

One fun thing happened today.. as I was coming up from the metro.. I noticed there was more room when I pushed through the turn stile.. that felt nice. :)
