I could go on and on about all the family drama that happened last week. Nobody really wants to read that, suffice it to say it was DRAMA! I did the best I could. I am now totally on plan and loving it. I have lost 7 pounds. I can't believe it and I am just waiting for them all to come crashing back.
I really enjoy the lifestyle. It's so easy to just fix a shake every so often and not think or plan meals beyond dinner. I think I'm treating my body really well, too. I'm sure I'm getting my vitamins and protein and that feels good. I can actually feel myself losing weight. And it's funny, my supervisor at work handed me a small quarter pint of ben & jerry's cookie dough ice cream and I put it in the freezer at work and forgot about it. Let someone else be a garbage can, not me.
Some women at work have chosen to get this "ear stapling" procedure done at $100 dollars each. I wish them well. I was going to do it too, but at the last second I backed out. I am now watching them eat the same things they used to eat and I don't see how it will work if you don't change your behavior. But it could be good for them in some magic way.
I modified my autoship to some choices I thought would be interesting and fun. I have a number of meals from my off plan days still waiting to be used. In a couple of hours I'm going to have a chocolate pudding and that's just really cool.

Okay, so I stopped posting for a while because I didn't have time to respond to anyone else's journals and that made me feel guilty. That makes no sense to me today. I'm using this journal for myself.
Small win:
Brownies at work. I took a tiny bit, like a thumb size of brownie from the pan. I had one bite and it was delicious. Then I thought -hey, these pants used to be tight on me and now they fit. Stay on the diet. So I dropped the other bite in the garbage. That's willpower.
Small troubles:
I'm having some trouble on the weekends with alcohol. I'm not addicted to it, it's just traditionally how I signal that it's the weekend and it sure helps me loosen up in the love life department with my sweetheart. One glass of red is all I'm talking about here. So my challenge this weekend is no alcohol. I have to find something else to signal me to relax.
Went off plan one day this week when I had 2 job interviews in one day and was out of control. So it's taken me some days to get back into fat burning mode. Not losing; not gaining.

Jen,

Its all about learning as you see. Keep at it and you will do great.

As for the journal... yes, this is your journal. Do not feel guilty about not getting to others journals to respond. We are here to support each other. Some use the journals alot, others post in the main forum so that everyone can see the issues.

Keep at it and keep us informed. You are doing great.

Yeah, Jen - this is your record of your MF journey! The most important thing it teaches us is how what we're feeling or experiencing affects our food choices. Don't worry about keeping up with other journals!

I really struggle with the alcohol thing, too. Going out to hear live music is a favorite pasttime in Austin. Hangin' out, listening to some good tunes and visiting with friends goes hand-in-hand with a great Mexican Martini! Sometimes I'll sail thru a night out and not even think about it, but other times I really miss it! They need to invent a carb and fat-free alcohol!

Hey, a shot of vodka's only 64 calories, no carbs (or fat, for that matter). BUT one problem with alcohol is that it does loosen your inhibitions, so you're more likely to follow that shot with an order of fried whatever. Or another shot.

Not to mention the fact that alcohol is dealt with in the liver... same place ketones are dealt with... which can slow the loss or even kick you out of ketosis.

Somewhere out there I thought I read something about 4 oz of wine. I can't find it in anything from TSFL or Medifast... so I may have been mistaken, so don't trust me on that.

It shouldn't kick you out of ketosis. It's actually allowed on Atkins, I believe. In moderation, of course.

Not that I'm advising anyone to drink. I'm just sayin' ...

Once again.. ya got me on that. Found this though... so, as Robin and I both suggest... don't do it.

Will drinking alcohol affect ketosis?

No and yes. The liver can make ketones out of alcohol, so technically, when you drink you'll continue to produce ketones and so will remain in ketosis. The problem is ... alcohol converts more easily to ketones than fatty acids, so your liver will use the alchol first, in preference to fat. Thus, when you drink, basically your FAT burning is put on hold until all the alcohol is out of your system.

This rapid breakdown of alcohol into ketones and acetaldehyde (the intoxicating by-product) ... tends to put low carbers at risk for quicker intoxication ... especially if no other food is consumed to slow absorption.

I have been observing how I use food as a drug. I make myself feel certain ways with food and use it as a reward. No wonder I'm overweight. So my challenge is not turning to food in times of stress or emotion. I've been drinking herbal tea instead and that's a pretty good compromise. Also, the medifast chocolate shakes and pudding help with that.
My pants are fitting much looser and that inspired me to not eat the pudding cake that a kind soul brought to the break room today.
I had a piece of white bread with peanut butter and a small small glass of milk yesterday, so I broke my ketosis. I really wanted to go to Taco Bell and eat 2000 calories worth of junk and binge, so the bread and milk was a win, in actuality. Back to start again today. I have the hardest time on the weekends. It's also interesting to see how little food I need. My portion size is going way down in my mind.

Having a tough time right now. People think giving you food is a nice thing to do. I have a large cup of chex mix on my desk that someone's child here at work has delivered to me courtesy of a woman at the front desk who I was JUST talking to ABOUT MY DIET. What the heck?
