Hi Michelle. Hope you've made it back home from work by now, so you can get some relief from the pain. You're doing great on the Medifast front. Take care of yourself. :pet:

Thanks Linda. My hubby came and picked me up around noon. I felt so lightheaded and nauseous...it was really scary because I thought that I was going to pass out or throw up or both. This was in addition to the pain in my knee - yikes!!

I came home, ate a MF meal for lunch, took some meds and fell asleep for a couple of hours. I am feeling a bit stronger so that is a good thing. i go for a follow up with my ortho doctor tomorrow - we shall see what he has to say.

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement.

ForMommy ~ I hope you're feeling better after your work day. While on stronger pain medications, most people need a little more protein so you probably will need an extra meal. Don't let your desire to be "on-plan" take over your need for nutrients. I've had knee surgery and I know exactly what you're going through. Thoughts and prayers coming your way ...

Follow up report:

Well, the doctor said that the swelling looks good and that it really will take 3-4 weeks to be back to normal (as normal as I can be anyway - ha!). Ticked me off a little when he originally said 2 days after surgery I'd be back at work and doing normal activities! ARGH! At least now I know what to expect.

He told me to take it slow, and do only what I feel I can...work, etc. I am going to start physical therapy to help speed up the recovery process.

I did better today as far as feeling dizzy, etc. but I did start to feel a bit weak around 2:45 or so. My husband thinks it is stress related because I am trying to keep on top of all the work I have and I am worrying too much. My co-workers think he is right in addition to they think I need to eat more (which is what many of you have said). So I am trying to be more calm and not overly anxious about the work piling up on my desk; and I will add another shake to my day for the added nutrients. I really don't want to go totally off the plan for another week...but if things don't get better, I may have to. I am hoping the extra shake will be enough.

I do know that my recovery is first and foremost but I also don't want to undue all my hard work. I know that sounds superficial....or crazy...not sure which....but I will try and do what is right, I promise :)

Thanks for all your concerns and advice - you guys are the best!
Michelle

ForMommy ~ I don't think any less of you for not wanting to undo the work that has been done. We have all worked sooo hard to be compliant and keep the food demons at bay, so now to hear "oh, you need to eat more". Well, I just can't imagine having to go through this again. I did a liquid fast about eight years ago and had a bad car wreck with a severe case of whiplash. Even though, I was getting about 70 grams of protein per day, my calorie count was only about 500 so my doc wanted me to eat a 1500 calorie plan of real food with extra protein. I explained about my food addiction and he just shrugged it off. Said to be strong and move ahead. Unfortunately, I followed his advice, ate real food and never really got back on my diet. Knowing what I know now, I would have increased my calorie count but I would have done it with the actual fasting product.

Since you're already eating one L/G per day, maybe this isn't that much of an issue for you but I'm really thinking about you and praying for your well-being. Just take care of yourself and get through the recovery phase so you can move back to the MF phase.

Thanks Arkie and Vicky - I am going to add the extra shake or whatever to help with the healing. I did actually lose 2 of the 5 pounds I gained already so I was happy about that. If I can maintain as you said, that would be good too.

I hear ya Arkie - I could totally let myself use this time for pigging out in a big way...I kind of did that last week...not pig out but I had sandwiches every day for lunch that my hubby bought from this organic cafe near our house and I had REAL vegie soup made from organic vegies...and I had english muffins for breakfast every day with tea. So I totally went off plan but I didn't eat "bad" things. I needed the carbs to help with nausea from the pain meds - I always handle meds better with some kind of bread in my system.

So, I will stay on plan with an extra supplement and see if that works. If I have issues or not see progress, then I may have to add 2....but I agree, if I have to add calories, I want to still be putting good things in my stomach.

I'll let you guys know how it goes....it helps to "discuss" with others - it helps me to figure out what to do.

Oh and Vicky - no the doctor had no suggestions - I'm starting to really think this guy is an idiot! He may be the best knee surgeon in the area but he hasn't impressed me in any other way.

Michelle, I think you are on the right road by adding extra Medifast. As far as not wanting to gain any of the weight back---you FOUGHT for that weight loss and you DESERVE it! The VERY BEST thing you could do for that knee is physical therapy and losing the burden of the extra weight it has to support---so you see, it is NOT vanity, but taking care of your health and the body God gave you. From personal experience with back, knee, hip and foot problems, I can tell you that weight loss has helped tremendously, so don't let co-workers influence you. You already get all the vitamins, protein, etc you need from Medifast, so if you need more calories, just add more Medifast. By the way, when I was on pain pills, I found that if I made the oatmeal very thick by adding less water, it protected my stomach more when I ate it at the time I took the medication.
