Baking Holiday goodies

Postby Lady Bug » December 8th, 2005, 11:13 pm

Hi all:

I baked last week because I wanted to send a care package with cookies/bars & a few gifts to my son in Qatar. (for those of you who remember, he went over in Oct and I was going balistic until I heard from him which was 2 weeks later, but then I received an email and I felt better.)

Well, fixing the care package was a temptation but I did get through it OK and glad I made the cookies/brownies and mailed them. Hope they arrive OK. I guess chocolate is good anyway you can get it. A cookie, crumbs or pieces.

Has anyone heard from Christy? (Lil Miss Texas) She was on line a lot when I first started MF. She was a wonderful inspiration. I did read a little tho when she was talking about Thanksgiving Dinner. Christy, hope all is OK with you.

I'm losing but slowly....3 lbs since Thanksgiving but will take it.

Sorry for babbleling on and on...hope all is doing well this Holiday season. It's such a trying time..in many ways. Hang in there and enjoy each day. We can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Evie,

When I made Thanksgiving dinner for my family, I didn't mind because I was cooking for my loved ones. It was an easy sacrifice. When my hands were covered with stuffing (I mix it with my hands), I just kept up the mantra "I love my family, I love my family" lol.

Knowing how your son will feel when he opens the box and has his first whiff of mom's baking must have been a great motivator for you. He's a hero and so are you.

Who knew it was possible to cook and bake without eating and sampling? Awesome job on the baking for your son. He is going to be SO stoked to get a care package from you.

I am like the mad baker. Don't know what has gotten into me but it is some weird moral imparative to make goodies and give them to friends, family and co-workers. My mindset is SO set that it doesn't really occur to me anymore to think about tasting whatever it is I am making. I sure do wash my hands a lot more, get it off me so it doesn't wind up in me.

Glad you are doing so well and braved the goodie making, it was a good test and for the best reason of all.

WELL DONE!!!

Me too!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea what's got into me either, but this week alone I made chocolate kiss cookies, rum balls, sugar cookies, english toffee, and chocolate covered pretzels..........and I haven't had one nibble. I love to cook and bake, but I have never gone this bananas with it before. I'm just so excited to give my family and friends a gift basket full of homemade Christmas goodies.

I tell everyone it's part of my diet strategy. Think how much thinner I'll look next to them, if they eat all the stuff I bake for them!!! (insert evil laugh here)

Hey Dogma:

That's too funny. We started the same time and have lost about the same amount of weight. My journey bagan June 23 but I went along some wrong food paths on the way...not real faithful to the plan then got back on track and going down the right road since about Aug. I love MF. I went to my DH Christmas Party Sat night and did real well. Probably ate more lean and green then I should have but hey, I'm really really pleased with my food decisions and feel good about the scale today.

Happy Baking and Holidays to you,
;) -Evie

Please come and help me out Shelley! I made my doughs last night and did Snickerdoodles and the cookies for a peppermint sandwich cookie. Tonight it is Gingermen cutouts and tomorrow night it is Linzer Hearts. See, I have a whole SCHEDULE -- and I want to be done by Thursday to mail a couple boxes on Friday. That and I don't want to be the nutty zombie baker girl next week --- need some time to relax and wrap my presents --- all my shopping is done.

Dogma, I like how your mind works --- evil diet stragedy next to me anyday. hee hee hee...

Holiday parties here we come -- yeah to all of us --- Santa's helpers on MF totally rule!!

Tis the season!
