Whats the difference?

Questions/Comments about Weight loss Products.

There is nothing wrong with Nancy believing in her product. Of course Medifast has profit written into it. It is, afterall, an AMEX (public) company. They don't give their food away. Neither does Campbells.
If you are so distressed between the profit differentials (as you seemed to be) then you are free to make your own choices. Personally, I have considered writing Medifast to suggest that if they lower their prices, they may make up for it with many more customers. On the other hand, I've found that (for me) it is CHEAPER to eat poor quality junk food than it is to use Medifast. However, look were all those (99-cent) hamburgers and other fast food specials have gotten me! I currently have to take at least one medication that my doctor says I need because of my poor health-DIRECTLY caused by obesity. (It's a p.p.i.-for those who know what that is.) I got FAT because I bought the cheapest junk out there. I'd never denigrate the protein any Campbell's products, but I do know that in some cases you do get what you pay for. And, yes, I feel I'm paying too much for my Medifast---I also feel I'm paying too much for my cable, gasoline, etc.
I did think your opening salvo was abit ornery. I don't know Nancy, but I've read where she has helped many people.
Just do what suits you. As for me.....I've saved a TON buying garbage at dirt cheap prices and now I've GAINED a ton!! Hopefully, I'll be using much less Medifast in about 8 months....then I can go back to complaining about other bills.

Swift,

Yes, you are entitled to your comments. You asked a good question and received an answer from those "qualified" to answer it. But, rather than leaving it at that, you made other comments that were not in the true spirit of this forum. Rather intended or not, some of your comments were deragatory and destined to spur the responses you received.

You stated:

"I noticed that no one had any strong opinions until Nancy came on and stated her opinion, at which point everyone had the same. But I also noticed how blindly everyone plays follow the leader." "if she said that new research had reported that if you go and eat 9 pieces of cheesecake a day followed by 3 grapes you would loose weight, many people here may actually do it." "But notice how the riot mentality sets in. Each post gets more and more bold as you fuel off of each other and feel you have people who are going to back you up."

Since you have been eating Campbell's Soup all of this time, you are saving money and losing weight, you probably are not going to stop eating the soup....what was your point?

Although I am relatively new to this forum and have gone back through most of the old posts, I can honestly say that I have not come across one that displayed such passive/aggressive tones as yours did. And, I have no problem stating my opinion when I feel a situation calls for it.

Patti

I think many of us defer our opinions until the subject is answered by someone who is trained to give their opinion. With a subject like this, I almost always wait for the experts to chime in first. When I read your post, Swift, I knew what Nancy would say, but I didn't hurry up and post my opinion because I have no right to tell you what to do. I have no training in nutrition and I have not studied Campbells vs. Medifast. I do think that if we all acted like experts, there would be too much bad information out there. Nancy is the moderator, so we wait to hear what she has to say first.

We aren't puppets. We all have our opinions, but we choose to defer our opinions until the experts have had a chance to weigh in.

The Swift diet plan has worked for you. I congratulate you on your weight loss. It is quite an accomplishment any way you got there. For me, I choose to stick to the Medifast plan as laid out in the Quick Start Guide and will save that savory soup for maintenance.

Because I cannot leave well enough alone....

Postby Marseilles » February 28th, 2006, 7:10 am

Hiya everyone. I am just going to take a second to state the obvious here. I think we need to be very careful not to make an impulsive reaction to anyones posts, be they questions or answers to questions. It is extremely hard to determine inflection and tone in a typewritten response. The ultimate purpose of this forum is support. Granted, support for the medifast program and those doing it, but support none the less for whomever might grace this space. All of us here have a common goal and a collective interest in achieving that goal. To lose weight in the healthiest manner possible. We are given the means to do that through the products we have chosen to purchase from medifast.

I believe that Swift's question has been answered truthfully and accurately. What Swift chooses to do with that knowledge is entirely a personal decision. Nancy, as well, has done her part in providing that answer. I'm sure it comes as no surprise to anyone what the final answer is, from Nancy and all else. Yes, Nancy is a huge proponent of medifast. It changed her life and has become her means of income as a bonus. I dont believe that people here follow her blindly until they see the results they can achieve.

All in all, I think enough has been said on the matter. I know people get riled up but I think it is wasted energy. Lets not have this reduced to a flame war people, remember we all have that common goal, okay? Anything else just detracts from the purpose of this place we all come to for support. The comaraderie here is what makes this place different from a bazillion and one other forums. Can people just agree to disagree and leave the animosity, perceived or otherwise, behind and call it a closed subject?

Best success to ALL OF US...we all have a valid place here and should be respected for our opinions, regardless of whether or not every person agrees with them. Its what makes us individuals.

Just my two cents....
-M.

I've toyed whether I wanted to post or not. But here goes!

We all have choices in our life...... right now, one of our choices is whether or not to continue with Medifast or not. This is a choice we make minute by minute, every single day. Medifast is not for all - you have to be disciplined.

People, including myself, come to this forum to get support, a pat on the back, helpful hints, and to join a bunch of great people tackling the same demon.... FOOD and battling those challenges ahead of us. I love coming here a couple times a day to catch up on everyone's successes and challenges...... it makes it real...... I'm human and there are others JUST LIKE ME!

We have been disciplined to stick with the program. Why? Cuz it works. My opinion, and this is only my opinion is once I start deviating outside the program, those demons will be foaming at the mouth cuz I just took a giant step in their direction. I know, one day, I will be there because I will be at my goal and I need to know how to get through the day and not be back where I started.

I guess my point is, if anyone is out there deviating from the program for whatever reason..... and it's working for them, I really don't want to know or argue about it. Many of us need the discipline of the program and cannot handle moving in that direction at this point. If it works for you - I'm seriously very happy for you and envious that you can discipline yourself with real food, but let's not debate it here please.

I have a friend who is about 400 pounds that I have been discussing and encouraging her to start this program. She is diabetic and can't stand to look at herself anymore. I have known this woman all my life. I had a HUGE discussion with her about Medifast and was about to send her the links to this forum so she can see the friends that I have made and how supportive everyone is. Frankly, I'm embarassed and I'm going to wait a while because I don't want to discourage her based on the content of this post. What happened here? Why did we even get here? Just puzzles me.

So can we please take a timeout? Can we get back to the supportive group we have always been? If we want a debate, can we do it privately?

Thanks,

Keri

Enough

I too agree with Keri,
. The truth of the matter is we are certified Health Advisors for Take Shape for Life using Medifast products. We are not doctors or nutritionists. Our greatest expertise is with our products and our program. For future reference it is very very unfair to ask us about products which are not Medifast Products which you intend to use in place of a Medifast product. The simple answer is we don't have time to research out the ingredients of every product available on the market nor is it our place to do so. We know the quality of the Medifast product. Manufactures are not required to put every ingredient on the label. Labels don't always answer the questions. In fact just yesterday my 100 year old Daddy's Dr. told him to drink Medifast RTD's rather than the products we hear advertised on T.V. for senior health. The doctor told Dad he might as well drink chocolate milk if he wanted to use the other products. I tried to explain why it is most important to use Medifast products while on the Medifast program. (Only makes sense to me) Medifast is just that a medical program. It has been medically designed and medically researched. It is a program which requires compliance. If you decide not to comply it is simply your decision. But, we cannot advise you as to what is happening with your body. We don't know. As has been stated above
all proteins etc are not the same quality. My very best educated advice is simply this. If you want to part with the pounds in the safest and quickest way possible -- insuring you will not be damaging your muscle tissue that please follow the program exactly.
Enough said I think on this issue. Let's pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get on with parting with the pounds in a safe and healthy manner.
Let's all go forward and do what is really important -- part with those pounds so that we can lessen our chances of a weight related disease.
Let's use this forum for what is was intended. A support group to help each other on the way. And questions concerning our products or legal snacks are always welcome. Other discussions seem fruitless and further always seem to end in contention.

Well everyone I decided to edit my post. This forum is a valuable and important tool. I appreciate the work Nancy and Unca do in keeping it pure and without spam and trash. I decided that I will continue to post support for all and wont be a part of any posting that lower the standards of this forum. Enough said. Lets move on.

Hope everyone is having a losing week :goteam:

Oh boy, do I dare add to this can of worms, oh well, here's my 2 cents.

I feel good after I eat MF soups, when I eat Campbell's soup I don't feel as good and I don't stay full, it has too much salt for me and I go look for something else to eat after the Campbell soup.
