What's A Realistic First Goal?

Postby 24KaratGold » January 7th, 2005, 9:31 am

My 48th birthday will be May 3. I am 5 feet 9 inches tall, and last Sunday weighed in at 269.5. I'm doing the 5 and 1 plan. What's a realistic goal for me to shoot for for my birthday? I want it to be one I can make easily, but not TOO easily, if you know what I mean. As much as I want to break 200 for the first time since in high school, I don't really think that's enough time to do it in. But the only knowledge I have of Mediifast is my 40 year old (formerly) 300 pound friend who has just lost 70 pounds in four months, and the wonderful, inspirational people on this forum, so I just don't know how to make a realistic assessment. I don't want to set myself up for a "failure." I want to be celebrating reaching this first goal on my birthday.

Thanks!

I think your goal should be to be perfect on the plan until your birthday. :D

There are no variations in the plan, really that can cause you to lose more or lose less, so you might not want to pick a number/date combo. i.e. I need to lose 15 more pounds to make my goal but I only have 2 days left so I'm going to only eat 1 shake a day to ensure it - or converseley, I kicked butt this week so I can eat something crappy and still make my goal. ((That second one is my problem. Hence the being at 195 for 3 months.......))

2 - 3 pounds a week is great so multiply that by how many weeks until May 3 and give yourself a goal range.

Good luck Lady!!!!!

I agree with Kat. Setting a number goal might be disappointing if you are totally compliant and haven't quite made it there. I would cast your goal in terms of being program compliant, keeping a journal, posting regularly, starting light exercise when appropriate, etc. By doing those things you will get to your weight loss goal most quickly.

Once you have a couple of months under your belt you will be better able to estimate how long it will take you to lose 10 or 20 pounds. For now, I would focus on being compliant and you will lose weight quickly and safely!

From what I've read and heard from my doc (a weight loss specialist), this diet "usually" allows for an AVERAGEweight loss of 2-4 pounds a week for women. Remember, average means sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less and depends on following the exact program. I chose the lower end of the scale, and went with that... I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Good Luck!
