Just get a salad....stay away from anything that sizzles. You can even get chicken on your salad if you ask them to cook it dry. If it is sizzling, it's got to be sizzling in something bad. Please don't get discouraged, you will figure out a way to eat out socially and still stay on your plan. Just keep working at it and don't give up.

These types of topics really scare me because how well will I be able to specify all these things in Cantonese? My guidebook says many restaurants do not have English speakers so many things in the book are written in Chinese so you can help identify menu choices. I guess I will have to stick to hotel restaurants or go to the salad bar at the Hong Kong Applebee's!

Hi

Postby dede4wd » January 26th, 2007, 1:48 pm

I eat at Fridays about once a week on the road.

I usually get the Lo-Phat chicken salad with the dressing on the side, but I have also gotten the chicken caesar with the dressing on the side.

Sometimes I get the 8oz flat-iron...ask to have it cooked in no sauce or butter and a side of steamed veggies or salad. Then I just leave a couple of big bites left over.

I drink a lot of water after nights eating out, but all we can do is make the best choices we can. On the road I don't have the option of eating at home all the time and it hasn't affected my losses and if it has, I'm not going to beat myself up about it because I'm happy with my losses AND the fact that I'm still social.

I'm going to Outback tonigh! Once I get them to take away the bread, it's all good! You'll do great!

Don't they have a piece of fish there? If you like salmon tell them you want it broiled, no butter or oil and to bring you fresh lemon, check out the vegetables and if they are steamed and MF compliant get them or a dry salad with lowfat dressing on the side, then add your own...don't sit there and watch hubby eat a steak you'll be miserable.
Restaurants are used to people being on diets/health conscious...they would go out of business if they couldn't cater to different folk's requirements.

She's right,
I've also had the mahi mahi there. I just ask for no coconut sauce, no rice, all steamed veggies.

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon late. I'm not a fan of Fridays, can't remember the last time I actually ate there. But since Chili's has come up in the discussion, I thought I'd just mention that I ate there this week. I had the salmon off their Guiltless Grill menu. It's an 8oz portion of pretty much dry-grilled salmon (which I didn't finish) and a serving of steamed broccoli and black beans (which I gave to my date). The Website's nutritional info lists the entree as 480 total calories. Whether or not that includes the beans, I'm not sure, but they're not compliant, anyway. So this week, week 2, I managed to eat out and am still going to be able to post a loss tomorrow at Roll Call. :)

Biki, I'd suggest learning how to say "steamed" in Chinese.

Good suggestion! My guide book said to stick to dim sum restaurants if you didn't know any Chinese because you can just point at the food you want off a cart. But how could I be really sure how it was cooked or even what it is??? I might get the people at the hotel who know some English (from all my emails to them) to write out the word for me in Chinese too.
