Its that mind playing tricks on ya again. Avoid the temptation... have a SF mint.... ;)
From what I understand, this is one of the hardest addictions other than food to fight, and I applaud any and all who attempt it, let alone beat it.

My dad quit with the help of nic gum when I was about 10 after he lived with my grandmother and her boyfriend for a month (while rewiring her house) and he saw the effects of smoking and emphysema on her boyfriend.

My mom quit cold turkey after finding a sore on her lip and a friend told her it looked just like the sore he got from smoking that was cancer and they had to cut his entire lower lip off.

Sometimes it takes major things happening to encourage the change. Just as is with weight... sometimes it takes a life-threatening event for some (or the probability of such) to change. It did for me.

Good luck to you Lori (and all others who fight this fight).

My dad smoked for years and years. He would quit then start up again. He would act like a little kid and hide from us when he smoked, (like we couldn't smell it on him)! A couple of years ago he ended up in the hospital twice. The first time he left early and started puffing again. The second time was only months later and he ended up on a vent for 4 days. He was so close to leaving us. Seeing him like that almost killed my family. My sister even came in from Oregon to say goodbye. But God had mercy on us and pulled him through. He doesn't smoke anymore, after that expereince he quit cold turkey. He still feels that urge. The addiction is like an addiction to heroin. Most of the time, now, it is out of habit more than for a cig, but it is still there and always will be. He says all the time that he will always be a smoker, just like an alcoholic will always be a drinker - you can't have just one. NEVER ever pick it up again.
