Soybeans (Edamame, Tofu)

Postby 24KaratGold » January 4th, 2005, 6:16 pm

Hi all; I'm a newbie here, on Day 2.

I have a question about soybeans. I love edamame -- are they acceptable as a "green vegetable?" And can tofu be used as the "lean protein" in the "lean and green" meal of the day?

You are all so inspiring -- I hope I can keep up with you all!

Thanks!

While edamame is packed with protein, it is also higher in calories and fat than the other acceptable green veggies on the 'lean and green' list.

Sorry to make you wipe the drool from your chin and to put away your bib, Little Darlin'.

Here's a little bit of info to get the proper perspective...

1/2 cup of Edamame has 127 calories
5.8 grams of fat
10 grams of carbs
11 grams of protein

1 Cup of Green Beans has 34 calories
.1 grams of fat
7.9 grams of carbs
2. grams of protein

1 Cup of Broccoli has 52 calories
.2 grams of fat
9.8 grams of carbs
5.7 grams of protein

NO starchy veggies during the weight loss phase - edamame will still be available when you reach maintenance

Dear 24 Karat Gold ~

You are so welcome! I want to help people prevent the years of flabby heartache I suffered. It's the pits. The smelly armpits.

BTW, Tofu can be used in the "lean protein" portion of the meal. If you are using firm tofu, use only 1/4 of the block and if using soft tofu you can have ONE (1) 2" x 1" piece. Not much is it?
