A Potpourri of thoughts regarding the Big 'M'

All that hard work and now what? Let's talk about how to keep those pounds off...

I would try to include a little protein with whatever you give them, personally. Fruit and peanut butter or cheese. Pretzels (preferably whole-wheat) with cheese. Crackers with cheese or maybe a little sliced turkey. Soy crisps, if they'll eat 'em (they probably will, especially if you give 'em something to dip them in). Even some rice cakes or something with a little egg salad or peanut butter or a slice or two of turkey.

You basically don't want to give them just carbs; it'll hype 'em up for a bit and then they'll be tired and hungry - and cranky - later on. Same basic principles apply as with grown-ups, I think.

My younger cousins used to love those Easy Mac things - mac 'n cheese that you mix up and cook in the microwave. Probably not ideal, but it gave 'em a little protein and vitamins (and calcium, I think). Or they LOVED those little Laughing Cow-type cheeses. A couple of those with a few healthy crackers, and they were good to go.

Vicky ~

Robin gave you some great ideas. Fruit is always a good choice but as mentioned, pair it with some protein. Yes, PB and apple is a favorite item of many kids. I make "Ants on logs" - spread PB on celery sticks and line up some raisins on top of the PB. Not all kids can have peanuts, 'though.

I make meat roll ups - thin slices of turkey or ham, spread with a little no fat cream cheese, a spinach leaf or two (or some lettuce), place a pickle spear on one end and roll it up, jelly-roll style and poke it with a fancy party toothpick to keep it from unrolling.

Some kids like cherry tomatoes stuffed with a cheese cube. Little meat balls are good cold as well as hot.

Freeze some grapes and pop 'em in your mouth when they are frozen.

Mini pizzas - spread pizza sauce or fresh marinara on a whole wheat English muffin, sprinkle with parmesan, black olives and poke it under the broiler for a minute or two.

How about one of those whole wheat tortillas sprinkled with cheese and some shredded chicken, melt in the nuclear box for a few seconds? Not too bad!

Remember, kids can eat any of our Medifast foods - they really like the Choc Mint bars, the S'more Granola Bars and the Soy Crisps - my grandson Nicky loves the Apple Cinnies!

RTDs are always handy...a banana shake in the blender with 1/2 a nanner or some strawberries added to a Strawberry shake to make a fruit smoothie. You’ll have the kids lining up at the back door, Vicky!

I think Atkins maintenence is the way to go for me.
How can you go wrong with meats, green veggies and a few lower carb fruits and nuts?
If I could put time in a bottle, I'd drink it! ;)

Cheers, Sheryl
