I need earring advice!

Postby GucciGoo » February 15th, 2008, 9:06 am

Slightly TMI:

For months now, I have had to leave my earrings out, because I keep getting infections. My ear gets really tender and I get pockets of pus that look like large lumps in the earring holes. It is really painful until the pus comes out. I am trying to douse it with alcohol, but it keeps coming back.

Any ideas? I called my doctor and am waiting to hear back...

PS- they are gold diamond studs- so no allergy risk.

Mail them to me and I'll wear them....

But seriously, I've only ever had problems with cheap earrings. If I use 14k gold studs, no problems. You could wear 14k gold hoops until they heal completely and then try again.

Beth i was just thinking, could this be possibly a pre-keloid development going on here?..dunno?..i know we AA women develop them. But what Jo said is excellent advice as usual:+) until you find out what's REALLY going on. Good luck!

The doctor called back. He told me to use neosporin on it and take Kelfex to get rid of the infection.

since there is no allergy risk, have you been putting the backs on too tight? Are these the only gold earrings that this happens with? Maybe, just MAYBE, these particular pair of gold earrings has a high nickel content. :dunno:

I guess I do wear them a little tight- but it's because I already lost one earring a year ago and had to replace it.

Girl I know what the problem is. IT was all those Dangly earings and Aqua net you would wear when you were younger. Once a jersey girl always a jersey girl
