Losers Cruise

Postby supermom » May 19th, 2006, 5:58 pm

Hi ya'll!! I have been thinkin. Seems like Smarti had such a good time on her cruise, and everyone always talks about getting together, why don't we try to do a "losers cruise"? You know, the cruise lines offer great discounts for large groups. They host class reunions, business conventions, family reunions, etc. I think a losers cruise would be fun. It would probably take a while to get everything set up, and most people would probably have to save the money (I know I will), but maybe shoot for January? I think it would be great fun to actually meet everyone and see their results live and in person. Plus, all the prego's should have calved by then and could come as well!!

I know a GREAT travel agent that specializes in cruises and I asked her about this when this came up last time. She said she'd LOVE to put together a package for us. Unfortunately,I don't have enough time to be the MMT coordinator...but if somebody does, I can put you in tobuch with her! December and January are my off times, so I'm up for a cruise!

I don't know if I can (depends on cost, timing, etc., of course), but I'd LIKE to.

Okay, who's up for the job of being our coordinator? Like I said, I know a GREAT travel agent, but I can't coordinate with her! She doesn't work at 11pm like I do!!!

Sounds great! The board was planning a trip or cruise back a bunch of months ago, then it sizzled out. People leave the board and then that's it. :( I have seen this on other weight loss boards time and time again.

BUT, I would love to see it actually happen!!! I'm in! Now, who's a good planner to see this through? :stroll:

I am an okay planner, but I hate to make decisiones like the ones that will have to be made for other people. The only decision I feel quite comfortable with is the timing. I think after the first of the year. That gives everyone time to save money, lose some flab, get some great cruise atire, and me to finish school. For me, it would be like a loser, graduation kind of thing. If you want, DeDe, you could forward me your TA's info and I could call, just to find out what all would need to be done on our part. I think the discounts start with a minimum of 4 double suites booked, then get larger as more people sign up. I am not real sure about that, though. There is a great cruise lady here in Amarillo. That is all she does, is book cruises and reunion cruises and stuff for people. But I will go with whoever. You travel so much, you probably do have a good relationship with someone who will do whatever they can to get you good prices.

Wait -- I'm having dejavu.

It sounds fantabulous! I doubt, however, the dh and I will be able to attend. We're teachers and can't take off work. (Boy, I can't wait for that to change!!)

I look forward to pics and stories, though! Ahoy!

Just a suggestion, but maybe we need to conduct a couple of polls to get this cruise plan off the drawing board.

First we need to know how many people are truly interested in going? (Including spouses and family.) <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_1_129.gif' border=0>

Next what time of the year (next year) will be the best time to go for the most people? Jan, Feb, Mar...etc.. or Spring <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/13/13_5_21.gif' border=0>, Summer <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/25/25_11_67.gif' border=0>, Fall <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_4_40.gif' border=0>, or Winter <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/13/13_5_20.gif' border=0>

Where do we want to go... Mexico/Cancun, <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_20_2.gif' border=0>Cariibbean, <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_6_13.gif' border=0> Alaska, <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/421.gif' border=0> , Mexican Riviera... <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_13_2.gif' border=0>?

THis would be affected by when the majority could take the time off to go on the cruise..<img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/13/13_4_6.gif' border=0>

Then how many days? 3, 5 or 7?

And finally what kind of budget per person do we have for the cruise? $300-$500, $500-$800...etc.

I don't mind putting together the polls, if no one else wants to. I think it would be difficult for the travel agent to arrange the cruise without having some, if not most of the preceding information. I've done some travel planning in the past, but am not a professional agent, so if you want to use a professional, I'd be willing to help gather some of the info.

I used to work for Carnival Cruise Lines. I'm not organized enough right now to organize it, but I'm available for any questions or advice needed.

I'd love to do this! We went on a Western Caribbean cruise through Disney a couple of years ago and had a blast! Cruises are great fun.

I'm not sure I'll be able to swing it though since we're getting ready to send my oldest off to college -- out of state! Whew! High tuition for 5 years (she's in a 5 year program) and then middle daughter starts college in 2 years, so needless to say -- we'll have no money to do what "we" :aarggh: want for a while!

I'm anxious to hear what you all decide on and when you're going -- maybe we'll win the lottery! ;)
