Kraft Crystal Light for Latin America - Tropical Flavors!!

Postby VictoriousNat » January 25th, 2007, 9:38 pm

Hey everyone,

I found out today that there are versions of Crystal Light made for the Mexican and Argentine consumers. It's called CLIGHT.

Here is what I found on Kraft's website:

"Clight, known as Crystal Light in the U.S.A., is a fruit flavored refreshment for consumers watching their calorie count. Major Markets: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico"

Here are the flavors:

Traditional flavors: lemon, mango, watermelon, strawberry, mandarine, grapefruit, apple

Exotic flavors: peach-jasmine, lemon-mint, orange-pineapple

Tropical flavors: horchata, jamaica, tamarindo, pina (piña) colada and guanábana, guayaba!

(An aside for my Latin/Caribbean MF shakers on the board, I nearly fainted when I saw guanabana and guayaba !!  )

Has anyone tried these??? I hear they have them on the cruise ships.
I found a seller on ebay and I will give it a try.

Here is what I found on a weight loss blog when I googled CLIGHT. She cracked me up.

So I asked myself "What's all the fuss about? Why are all these seemingly intelligent women driving over the border to Tijuana to purchase a .15 cent package of sugar free drink mix, particularly in Lime flavor, in bulk, and setting up a black market in the US?"

So why the hell can't we have it here in the US? Not only do they make Lime (which is a might damn fine sugar-free margarita base, I'll tell you that right now), they have this amazing array of flavors from Watermelon to Lime to Hibiscus. And what do we have in the US? Try about 5 or 6 flavors of its bastard cousin -- Crystal Light -- none of which really impress me except for Ruby Red Grapefruit and Peach Iced Tea, which is like crack to me.

So good. I'm telling you, something is very, very wrong here. Responses from Kraft were highly unsatisfactory bordering on flippant. We Americans prefer carbonated drinks. The South Americans prefer still/flat fruit drinks, so they market the majority of the flavors (more than two dozen) in those countries, and not here.

My grandmother lives in Mexico City half the year and should be going back soon, I am going to have her send me some! Don't worry, I will share! An interesting reason that some Hispanics like flat drinks was told to me as a child in Mexico. There are all sorts of beliefs about carbonated beverages, especially at certain temperatures, having the power to make the stomach explode. Specifically in my grandmother's old neighborhood, they insisted that street dogs peed on the soda bottles at the market so drinking them was not a good thing unless they were washed very thoroughly. But I think that belief was limited to that street.

The horchata sounds good to me! If it is even close to correct. Can find horchata on every corner around here but sadly it is certainly not sugar free.

I'm with ya bro. I was raised in a small, mostly farming town with lots of migrant farm workers. I enjoyed horchata growing up. Would love to see if this even comes close.

Hmmm, how do I know if the horchata is good? I have never had it before. Of the 40 packets I ordered only 3 will be horchata. I will have to have one of you try it.

LOL Lucy! Well now you can be an independent seller of CLIGHT! Buy wholesale from the Mexican store. What flavors did they have?

Being in an area that is 50% Hispanic (predominately Mexican), I may be able to find it here. Will have to hunt around next week.
