How Do I Start?

Postby Alicia40 » November 2nd, 2004, 3:52 pm

Today when I go home, I am hoping to find my Medifast 55 Variety Kit. I am not sure how to start, but I know I need to start immediately. I feel so awful lately from the foods that I put in my body and my weight of 250 does not help me any. I really want this to work. I have been on so many diets to just have them fail me agian and again. I am for the first time reaching out for the first time. I just turned 40 and I am tired of feeling so awful and now embarrased about my weight. I just want to make sure I do things right when I start off.

Thank you.
Peace & Blessings,
Alicia

Hello and Howdy Doody, Alicia ~

We are very happy to have you join us and for you to not just read about Medifast but to EXPERIENCE it - shake it up and shake it off!

When you get your first shipment of products, you will get a little shaker jar for your very own and a Quick Start booklet - it is your guide. Be sure to read it thoroughly and then re-read it a number of times.

Mike gave you several excellent links and then read past MakeMeThinner Forum postings and all of my MMT Newsletters. I think you'll find that we have wonderful resources all geared for your success.

Cheers, Alicia! :toast:

Howdy Alicia40!

Me too, I was nervous not knowing exactly what to do when I first got my box - AND I didn't find this forum until 5 days into doing my MF program. The Quickstart guide gave me all the info I needed. You'll do fine - lots of us here can practically mix our shakes blindfolded by now so just jump right in!

Here's to your success!

Alicia ~

re:

Camille brings up a good point - I Medifasted my way to success w/o the support of anything or anyone other than my husband and a handful of folks in a small weight loss support group that Terry and I started at our church.

We know that for folks who are in it for the long-haul weight loss phase like I was and for folks interested in long-term weight maintenance like me! and the others here on the MakeMeThinner Forum, that we had to have something tangible to help us to become and to remain successful.

Most family doctors are not very knowledgeable about nutrition nor do they have very much time to devote to supporting overweight clients. It is usually a 6 week wait to get an appointment to see my physician, she is always on the run when she comes to the exam room for a cursory peek down my throat and a thump on my chest and rarely has time to address the issues on my list of health questions.

Terry and I talked extensively about how we could provide excellent information about Medifast Diet to others who need to know what we have eked out over our 28 month experience with Medifast, Inc. and its products. Unca is our techman - the Techmeister Dude - thus the MakeMeThinner Forum was born!

Not all who visit our site and post on the MakeMeThinner.com Forum are my personal clients.

Medifast Diet is the company that makes the Medifast products available to physicians, Health Advisors and customers.

There are some medical clinics owned by Medifast, Inc. and there are also some medical clinics that feature Medifast Diet products.

Jason Pharmaceuticals is the manufacturer of the Medifast products.

BTW, Medifast is manufactured in a FDA inspected and approved facility in Owings Mills, Maryland - good ol' USA .

Many of the Medifast products are low glycemic and some are Orthodox Union certified Kosher, as well.

Take Shape For Life is the marketing avenue for Medifast Diet.

TSFL is a network of physician-led INDEPENDENT Health Advisors.

Medifast products have been available for nearly 25 years; initially only through physicians and within the last two years, through Take Shape For Life Health Advisors.

My husband Terry and I are National Directors for Take Shape for Life featuring these great Medifast Products.

MakeMeThinner is the name of our independent business. We have undergone extensive trainings by Dr. Wayne Scott Andersen, Medical Director for Medifast, Inc. and Take Shape for Life and passed all testing and certifications available.

Our desire is to provide information and help for people that want to achieve improved health, lose weight (whether it's just a few pounds or a LOT of weight like me) and maintain their optimal weight using Medifast products.

Terry and I are successful products of Medifast products. Terry lost 60 pounds; I lost 135 pounds. We are committed to helping others get healthy and happy right along with us.

You are just now embarking on your journey to wellness and skinnydom and we are excited to help you make your dreams become a reality!

:burnout: Get ready, get set, SHAKE!!

Welcome

Postby Lil'Bit » November 6th, 2004, 5:53 am

Welcome to the "family"! You are going to be so happy with this product. It is very simple to use. Like you I was on the forum before I even got my product and needing alot of information. This is my daily menu.
5:30 - get up
6:00 - shake or hot cocoa (now that it is getting cold but not everyday)
9:00 - shake or bar
12:00 - shake or bar (only 1 bar a day)
3:00 - shake
6:00 - 2 cups of lettuce, lean meat ( I learned from L.A. Weightloss that you don't want to eat red meat two days in a row because it takes longer for your body to digest it, so I eat red meat one day and chicken the next 2 days and then red meat, etc...) On my lettuce I put around 1/4 c. of cucumbers and sometimes add red bell peppers and yellow bell peppers.
A light or fat free salad dressing. I like cucumber ranch.
9:00 - I love having a shake or pudding. The pudding is excellent. For my shake I printed out from the recipe forum the different ways to have shakes and I am going to try them all. I really like the chocolate with 1t. of Vienna instant coffee and 6 ice cubes in a blender. It tastes like a mocha freeze to me.

That is my day. Remember not to exercise yet. Your body needs to burn the fat it has stored before the exercise does. I have another week to go and then I am going to slowly start the 20 min. Pilate workout. I might be going on a cruise also and if that happens I am going to try their yoga classes.

In the first 2 weeks of my "New Life", I lost 10 lbs. I checked my scale this morning and I have lost another 2 and I am going in my 3rd week. I have said I wouldn't weigh myself but 1 time a month but I couldn't resist. I just felt I had lost another pound or two. After the initial 10 lbs, I stopped. BUT the inches have been falling off. I know that scales don't matter as much as the way your clothes fit you. So, try not to be obsessed with the scale reading as some of us are.

Last thing is to be sure and drink ALOT of water. I rarely drink soda and when I do I love the Diet Rite Raspberry. I cannot drink a full can of diet coke. Anyway, water is the best thing for you anyway to help wash all those toxins out.

I have tried L.A. Weightloss, Weight Watchers, Herbalife, Jenny Craig, Mayo Diet, TrimLife, Metabolife, Soup diet, South Beach, Atkins, just to name a few and the list can go on. With Herbalife I went from a size 22 to a size 5 in 4 months and there wasn't any skin hanging but there are alot of pills and the shakes cannot compare to Medifast. After 7 years of losing all that weight I went back up to a size 14. Now with Medifast and no pills, I am a size 10 working down to a size 6/7. One thing I forgot that being on this site reminded me was the exercise. When I did Herbalife I didn't exercise for the first 2 months (for some reason) and then I started exercising and it kept coming off and toning. Here they tell you not to exercise if you weren't doing it before and if you were cut it in half for the first 3 or 4 weeks of being on Medifast. With all the other diets I did, the first day I started a diet I would start an exercise routine. I think that was part of my downfall. It is nice to just take in product that is helping your body with vitamins and nutrients and not having to worry about starting an exercise routine NOW. Anyway, take it easy and remember we are all here and there is so much information on this site.

Hope this encouraged you a little. I tend to write books!

Wow, thaks Lil Bit, I really got a lot of your share. I am on day 2 and feeling hungry. I just had another shake my last one for the day and as a treat I added tablespoon of coffe and a smidge of vanilla and 1 splenda packed blended with ice and it really tastes satisfying. The shakes really make me feel so much better when i have them.
Congrats on your weight loss so far. Like you I have been on every diet imagineable and some diet pills that were not safe for my body too. I wish I had found this plan earlier but am grateful that i have today. I dont have a scale only at work and I am going to weigh myself this friday to see how I am doing.

:D
Peace & Blessings,
Alicia

Alicia ~

Your evening shake sounds very good - a perfect nightcap.

I'm having French Vanilla Oatmeal, under the covers! It's chilly tonight and I just crawled under the blankies to read and have a night time snack, too!

Nighty night, puting the :puter: old 'puter into hibernation mode now.

Postby indy1039 » January 19th, 2006, 8:42 am

Hello Everyone. I Just started - on my 2nd day. Is the menu I am doing ok on the 5 and 1?

Oatmeal for breakfast
Shake
Soup for lunch
Bar for afternoon snack
Shake

Lean and green dinner
Do you have to have 3 shakes a day? Why 3?
Thanks very much for the help.

Hi Indy...your menu is okidoki! Any combination of the medifast meals is fine. Only ONE BAR per day though because it's a little higher in calories then the other suppliments. As I understand it, three shakes is no longer a "must" and any combination is acceptable.

WELCOME!!! You're going to LOVE this program!!! So easy and it WORKS! (I'm currently on day 4 and the cravings have subsided, feel good, have more energy...it's great!!!)

Hi, Indy ~

You didn't give an indication of the time frame for your meals here so it is difficult to make a final analysis. It is hoped that you had your Oatmeal within an hour of getting up and then all the other meals were spaced every two to three hours, never more than four hours.

There are lots of posts woven throughout the Forum regarding the protocol for the 5 Medifast Products and you can do a search using the clicky button ^ there.

To give you the boiled down version, you may use any combination of five meal replacement packets a day. The only 'rule' is one bar per day, due to its higher caloric and carbohydrate level compared to all the other Medifast meal replacements.

The footprint for the other meal replacement packets is just about the same, with a variance of about 20 calories.

You may use no shakes, if you prefer. For example you could have three servings of oatmeal and 2 servings of puddin' plus your Lean and Green meal and lose weight safely, rapidly and feel great.

I personally feel that using 2-3 shakes a day, especially during the first week or so when people say they are hungry is the best way to go. The shakes contain ore soy protein than any of our other products. Soy is a natural appetite suppressant so if you ingest more soy, hunger is satisfied naturally and it makes it easier to stick to the program. Once a person is 'safely on their way', their routine is established, they have the program down and are in the fat-burning state for a few weeks, then I suggest that you may replace some of those shakes with other items such as the Chai Latte, the Iced Tea, the Puddings, etc.

Some people use but 1 or 2 shakes right out of the gate on their weight loss program and they do very well. When I started my program, I used to eating a lot of food and it seemed to me as if I was getting just a little dab of food on my weight loss program. I had only shakes and I was hungry. I made them in the blender and added crushed ice to make a larger volume of food, in a short time, my hunger was satisfied and my stamina and energy quickly picked up.

It is totally up to you which Medifast packets you use. Initially our program was designed to have 3 shakes as it was thought that heating the soy and other meal packets degraded the nutritional composition but recent research has shown that to not be so.

So bring on the Puddin’ and let’s get thinny! :bib:

If I may, let me put your meal plan into a time perspective:

7 am Oatmeal for breakfast
10 am Shake
1 pm Soup for lunch
4 pm Bar for afternoon snack
9:30 PM Shake

6 PM Lean and green dinner

Happy thinnin' to you, Indy!
