I have a girlie question...

Postby Janae » July 6th, 2006, 9:00 pm

The question about face goop gave me the impetus to ask this question that has been on my mind. My husband asked me what I might like as a gift for one of my small goal rewards...

What I would really like is some totally marvelous fragrance product...some perfume, cologne or body lotion or potion or bath oil or body gel..you know. I have some of these of course, but I want to get something really special and yummy. I thought some of you might have some ideas...perhaps the thing with which you treat yourself or which you love to receive as a gift from your DH or partner.

For you guys that got this far...is there something special with which you treat your wife or girlfriend?

Any help with my quest for fine aromatics would be appreciated!

Potions, lotions, bubble bath, oils, etc, I make my own. That is my hobby. That takes away my tension. Perfume, I have worn Calvin Klein Eternity for years. I LOVE it. I layer it---lotion, powder, perfume. There are so many nice scents out there, but I have just always stuck to that one!! A reward my hubby gave me was a trip to the day spa. He has also gotten my parents to come up and stay with our kids, and taken me to a really nice hotel and we stayed the night in the honeymoon suite, with a private hot tub, butler service, etc. He had room service bring in steaks and steamed brocoli, we had iced tea, and the funniest part----they usually serve champaigne and fruit with cheese to the guests. We got a big bottle of sparkling water, and some jell-o. I thought it was really sweet that he actually thought to tell them no bubbly or fruit and cheese. We had lots of fun, but I will spare you all the details!!!

I'm a Philosophy girl, so I LOVE the whole Grace Line,

Amazing Grace when I want to feel girly and pretty.
Pure grace when I want to feel clean.
Baby grace...I don't use this one much!

I also like their falling in love.

They all come in kits! I love the shower gel and conditioner and lotion too!

I love anything from Georgio Armani, Versace, and Oscar de Larenta. I love the musky-not too fruity aromas. Just go to the department store and start spraying because perfume takes on a different aroma depending on your skin's reaction.

Little tip: If you buy a gift pack, there's usually a "free with purchase" to boot.

I use Prada or Chanel Chance. They are both very different- Prada is earthy and rich, the Chanel is light but has a tantalizing scent.

I was infatuated with all things perfume and fragrance related for almost a year.

I think we might need more info on what scents you like before recommending anything. For example, one of my favorite perfumes is Guerlain Samsara, but everyone in my family hates it. Before I buy them anything, I have to pay attention to what they like (which is a chore, all bits and pieces of different things).

For lotions and such, you may want to try e-tailers. Small companies that sell mostly online. I find their products to be of a better quality, stronger scented, and less ingredients. If you want a list of different e-tailers, PM me and I can direct you to one.

I'm not usually a big fan of fragrances, BUT in Utah last weekend I hit the outlets and they had a makeup/perfume place that I wandered into. I fell in love with Donna Karan's Cashmere Mist. I've been wearing it every day since then, and I really want to get a shower gel or something with the same scent.

'Dolce and Gabbana', Lancome 'Miracle, Givenchy 'Organza' and Chanel 'Chance'. Always nice to get a set of your favorite fragrance and 'layer it' on. Lasts longer throughout the day or eve.

Fun Question! I love Estee Lauder "Beyond Paradise"; it's pretty new. Philosophy "Falling In Love" is heavenly. Also love Kate Spade "Beautiful" sold only at Nordstrom (I'm pretty sure). L'Occitane has great lavender lotion, etc.

Good luck!

One of the best smelling products EVER in my opinion is:

Tipton Charles bath oil (doubles as massage oil)

I got the Orange Vanilla bath oil as a gift. Oooooo. HEAVEN!

(I just Googled it and there is a person on eBay selling a whole selection of fragrance choices to pick your selection from: Basil-Nectarine, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon Verbena, Mandarin-Guava, Ocean, Orange Vanilla, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tomato-Watercress, Fairway, Jasmine, Eucalyptus... if you are interested!)

It's made from jojoba oil and essential oils. Really, lovely lovely stuff. I could not be in a bad mood after a bath in it! :D My sister turned me onto it (she got it at an old-fashioned perfumery/drug store in NYC) and I owe her hehehe!

I used to LOVE Cashmere Mist. I just bought a HUGE bottle of it right before I got pregnant. When I got pregnant, it was making me nauseous and was really strong. To this day I can no longer stand it, which is a shame, because mentally I know how much I adored wearing it :( So I am stuck with a big bottle of it :(

Strong scents tend to make me nauseous, so I use light body sprays. Right now, I'm stuck on Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Splash by Bath & Body Works.

Someone mentioned Givenchy--they make so many good fragrances. I love the Organza, Ysatis, and Givenchy III.

I also love many of the Chanel products--but my favorite was and is Chanel No5 in the perfume (extrait).

You might try some of these or some of the other ones mentioned when you go to the department store. Someone also mentioned Eternity--that is nice, too.
