Exercising again?

Postby DonicaB » April 30th, 2005, 8:16 am

Well I am coming to the close of my 4th week so I am going to start adding PILATES back into my life. Is it OK to do it daily for about 20 minutes or is that too much?

Thanks Donna, I was hoping 20 minutes a day wouldn't be too much. I can't believe I am actually excited about starting to exercise  .......something about losing weight that just makes us want to look HOT.

I am so glad you got the book. I told Julie she is gonna have to give me a cut of the profits since I am promoting her books so well.

BSmith~~Scandalous Grace is a book written by my sister-in-law, Julie Barnhill. She is a Christian author. The book is a zing of encouragement to women. It is about God's unconditional love no matter what your past is and no matter what situation you are in. I loved the book, and I'm not just saying that because she's my sister-in-law, though I probably am biased.

Well, I just finished my first 20 minute pilates workout since I started MF. I cannot believe what a difference 18# makes. I could do the roll up without heaving and hoeing. I could actually use my stomach muscles to lift myself to a sitting position.

Oh how I love losing weight. I just wish you could have seen me. I could do it........I could do it.

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

It won't be long and I will be able to do the V-sit position without this roll of jelly in my way.

Hi Donica,
I've never done pilates before....but think I would like to give it a try....I guess there's lots of different tapes/versions - or do you just do your own thing? If you have one that you like, would you be an angel & share? I think 20 minutes sounds perfect. I'm looking forward to the end of May when our pool opens and we'll be able to do water aerobics. I did it last summer, but I think I'll enjoy it more this summer - since now I've got an ongoing motive!! Thanks!

Fatbgone......I know Donica will reply in a short while.....but in the meantime this is just a suggestion.....check out your library and rent a few first to see if you like them.....there are quite a few different ones....I myself do Winsor Pilates....the 20 min version.......so do able.....

Thanks Donna,
That's a great idea....and I would have never even thought about using the library. THANKS!!

Also, I keep meaning to mention to you that I noticed you are a Mary Kay consultant....I do part time work here in Austin for 3 Mary Kay directors - doing office work for them. Everyone I've met in the Mary Kay business are nicer than nice....How long have you been a consultant? Gotta love that new Microdermabrasion, uh? :D

Hi Lisa, Donna is right on target. I do the same winsor pilates that she does. .......the 20 minute workout. She is correct when she says it is very doable (that word looks funny~~doable ??).

I ordered mine on-line, but I never even thought to check and see if the library would have it. Of course, I live in a small town and our library is a little to be desired. They probably don't have any recent exercise tapes.

The set I bought has 3 DVD's in it. One just teaches you how to do the exercises, the second is the 20 min. workout, and the 3rd is an advanced workout, about 50 minutes. I haven't tried the advanced one yet. I also have the AB Scuplting DVD. That is the one I started with but found it extremely difficult for me, way too advanced for me at the time. I look forward to being able to do it soon.

You might check on ebay or even a subsidiary of ebay called half dot com. They have a lot of great stuff you don't have to bid on you can just buy it. They have books also. :pagesturn:

Hope this helps. If you need help finding any of this stuff I will be happy to do what I can.

Thanks Donica...now that I've got 2 of you guys telling me about the same version of pilates, I think that will be the one I'll get to try out first. I love the idea of a dvd just to tell me HOW to do it...since I have NO clue!! :? So, I think I'll look for the set like you have. I shop on ebay alot, so I'll check it out there and use some of my paypal $$.

Thanks again - you guys are all SOOO nice & helpful!!

I went back to my weights and the "total gym"..........they seem to work okay.

I did try "Pilates" for a couple of weeks and found it caused me to GAIN weight.

I don't undersand this.........I thought I was doing it correctly. Every morning............I would eat a PIE and then drink a LATTE. Was this incorrect?
