Any non-sweet meal bars?

Postby scatter » March 29th, 2009, 11:01 am

I tried a couple types of meal bars. They're an attractive concept, but they're so sweet that I immediately crave a second. They're less like a meal replacement, and more like a candy replacement.

Are any of the flavors a bit more meal-like? Or can anyone suggest a Medifast-like bar that's a bit... not unpleasant, but at least boring? :)

To tell the truth, I will not be doing bars, for that reason alone. :x

The original bars (which they now call 'maintenance bars') are not as candy-like as the crunch bars, but you can only have one of them per day. I'm not sure what flavors are left but the chocolate peanut butter always tasted pretty chalky to me (more like an Atkins bar I guess) so you might want to try those. There's no denying the bars are convenient - some people feel less full with them but I love them - maybe precisely because they are like candy, it makes it easy for me to stick to plan - no mixing, no cooking, just grab and eat.

If they are still available, the diabetic bars are not as tasty (though not bad) ; they are also lower in sugars. When I bought them the flavors were either chocolate or peanut butter.

You can make your own granola...Shape it into a bar/cookie. It will be less sweet depending on what you add to it
Don't really care as long as everything's better than yesterday was...

I couldn't find the diabetic bars on the site. I did try a few other flavors and they were all the same... it's like they tried to make a candy bar replacement instead of a meal replacement. Bagh.

I have found making my own bars the best choice as some of them are way, way too sweet (and they provoke in me an ungodly desire for other sweet stuff!). You can try a MedifastRecipe site to get some ideas on bar recipes.

I'd just like to add that all Medifast meals have been formulated to specific criteria and anything not developed by Medifast is not recommended or endorsed during the weight loss phase by Medifast, TSFL or MakeMeThinner.

I tried making my own, but to no avail! I agree with Unca Tom that Medifast has a very specific regiment that if followed has huge (or slim!) benefits.
