WARNING!!!

Postby bdg » March 4th, 2007, 2:07 pm

If you want to save your wallet the hassle down the road, don't buy seasonal clothing (shorts, etc.) in the size you believe you will be at a particular time, or you will be disappointed/elated. You are obviously not a good judge of how big or small you are and will not make the right choice.

Why the warning? Well today I pulled out a nice pair of dockers 38 shorts to wear today that I had bought at the end of last year's shorts season, and realized that I am already in 36s. In fact wearing minimal 38s anymore. I put them on to see since everything is different, and these didn't fit. The price tag is still on them though so they will be sold and someone larger than me will be able to use them. This is a good thing!

I second that! I wasted lots of money on size 10's thinking I would never be smaller.

Thanks for the heads up. I was actually looking at bathing suits today. And I was trying to guess what size I was going to be. I did not buy it. The thing that stinks is when you go look for a bathing suit in June they are basically all out. :?

Good one, Brian!!

Yeah, I've been making due with a $40 utilitarian Costco coat this winter because I can't bring myself to buy a dress coat knowing this is the only year I'll use it.

Here's to smaller sizes!

Try $13 coat and $8 jacket. These had to suffice for me til next year when I get my $80 leather jacket I had my eye on this year.

Hi There my Shrinking Friends, :D :D
The resale shops sometimes have some nice things at a much better price. I've found some real deals on designer stuff even... I most likely wouldn't have bought it full price anyway!! That's for your "good stuff". For your clothes just to get you thru .. head to the Goodwill and take advantage there. No bathing suits though

I am with Jan on this one. Goodwill will be my store until I am at goal because I find that I drop sizes too quickly to invest in anything brand new.

smaller clothes

Postby fairladyj » March 6th, 2007, 10:38 am

1 word - ebay!

you can find great bargains in clothes that have never been worn (look for NWT - "new with tags" or NWOT - "new without tags") in the title or description. Especially if slightly out of season. I have bought Ann Taylor pantsuits with the tags still on them for $25 - about 10% of the retail price - you can't hardly find sales like that anywhere.

Of course, you can't try them on, so either stick with brands you know, or buy some used stuff even cheaper that you can experiment with - you can always resell it if it doesn't fit!

OTher places to shop

Postby BrownIdGirl » March 6th, 2007, 10:48 am

I have gone to shopping at Wallyworld and Target for my work clothes. I bought a few pants and dresses in my size and will not shed even one tear when I am out of the size and can't wear them anymore. They really are like disposable clothes.

I must have serious issues as I continue to shop as I always have for suits and coats even though my cousin (who lost 70lbs) tells me that I must shop for basics and "low end" until goal. I know it makes no sense but I bought two coats this winter as last year's coat now swallows me whole -- even though I know, as Di said, this will be my only winter in them. They were waaay cheaper that I normally would do, but still...only one winter. I figure I will sell everything on ebay or craigslist.................or here. :D

On a saner, less money wasting note, I am still running around in some very, very loose, baggy clothes; I will wear those until they fall off. :D We have a casual dress code at work. Sack of potatoes look is acceptable.LOL

Ohhhh,
Do I ever understand the "wear them till they fall off" mode. Be careful... my spendy Nordstrom pants ... tooo expensive to part with  fell off in my backyard. :? Thank goodness it happened in my backyard. :D Why did I even have them on... well they were so expensive I had to use them for something... so I used them for of all things "yardwork" pants. :( :(
Goooood Grief.. What was I thinking????
