Can anyone tell me how much your cholesterol levels dropped while on medifast and over what period of time...like in a month, two months, etc.

I just started, and my cholesterol is pretty high. My doctor wants to retest in a month or two. What kind of changes might I hope for?

Thanks. You all are very helpful!

I have had clients who have had drastic changes in one month. I got off mine after 2 months (well, actually I just stopped taking it and my next tests were fine).

So, it could be a month, it just depends on your own body. We are all different.

I see a lipid specialist every 6 months for genetically high cholesterol and, unfortunately, my cholesterol numbers have gone up since I began MF. I had a check up within 2 weeks of starting MF and then one last September then again about 5-6 weeks ago. The numbers are worse with MF than they were before beginning. I am frustrated with the results but am still very pleased with my weight loss even though the cholesterol numbers haven't fallen as I had expected.

I figure that since I began MF my eating habits are much improved, my weight is within a healthy range, I feel so much better------all positives except for the lousy lipid (cholesterol) numbers. I've also gone off of my hormones so that may be a part of the increased cholesterol numbers.

Thanks for the info.

My doctor had been on MF before and she said that I may want to just do two supplements per day and the lean and green. She said something about "metabolic syndrome" and that b/c we have tried to diet so much, it's much harder for us to lose. That just didn't even sound right Any reason why a physician might say that? It sounded a bit discouraging. And then with the cholesterol problem, I didn't know what to think.

In any event. I'm going to stick to the plan, and hope for the best. If I lose weight and my blood pressure is okay and I feel good, I'll deal with the cholesterol levels.

Thanks.

I had metabolic syndrome when I started (high cholesterol, insulin resistance), along with a history of dieting and trouble losing weight. I lost more slowly on Medifast than others, but I did lose and my cholesterol dropped. My HDL's still as low as ever, though. It's a genetic thing.

She suggested two supplements and a lean and green and nothing else??? So around 500 calories? Seems like the only thing that will do is make your metabolism even slower.

BTW, as a follow-up, I have now been maintaining for almost two years (and also off my cholesterol meds for about the same amount of time) and just had blood work done. Cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides still fine (actually, triglycerides were fantastically low). HDL slightly higher than two years ago, but still on the lower side. Blood sugar normal. Liver enzymes, which used to be on the high side, are normal.

Great job Robin,
My favorite part of this forum is hearing about people's numbers improving.

When's your 2 year anniversary, and I'll update your "maintaining" ticker?

Not till August. But yeah, I'm pretty jazzed about still having such great numbers after two years of eating on my own. Even WITH my fondness for burgers and barbecue.
