Splenda Has Carbs???

Questions/Comments about Weight loss Products.

Postby Arklahoma » August 13th, 2006, 6:03 pm

OK ~ I feel like I have the definitive answer. I just logged on to the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This is what registered dieticians use to calculate food composition data and it states that 1 packet of splenda has 0.9 grams carbohydrates.

I don't use alot of splenda but I just am shocked at the quantity it contains. If you're stalling, this could be a possible reason.

Robin ~ Just wanted to let you know that I just found an FAQ for healthcare professionals regarding splenda and it states that splenda contains < 5 calories or approx 1 g carbohydrate per serving, which meets govt. guidelines for no calorie foods. Can't wait to see what you dig up at the FDA.

Ok ladies, since you are on the subject. Well ok, not carbs but calories. You know the ICBINBS, if you use a teaspoon does it count as some calories? I have wanted to ask this for awhile now and just haven't....

hmm Ark, that would mean it would be 10 carbs per the 10 packets that Medi allows...interesting.

Technically, it would be 9 carbs (0.9 x 10 = 9.0).

i don't know how i missed this, but aspartame slows weight loss.

i have so been working against myself. :uhuh:

i used to (yeah "used to") consume enough aspartame to give cancer to people on the same block as me.

i will miss you, equal, my dear friend.

you could have let it go...

Wow.

Yes Tony, I could have let it go, but I figured that the whole point of this thread was to glean accurate information regarding Splenda's carb count.

9 carbs is not 10 carbs -- information that would matter to those counting every gram. I wasn't trying to be snarky, I was trying to be helpful.

p.s. Thanks Mike!

Sharon, If you look at the back of the ICBINB squirt bottle, it shows LOTS of calories. The spray can claim no calories because the spray is such a small amount per serving. If I'm remembering correctly, the calories are competitive with the real thing.

It's the way things are portrayed from people and how it is said very snooty like.... Sorry, but 1 gram of carb more would help people not eat more carbs. If it was where they were saying less and it was more then that would be a detrement to them.....plus it goes back to when people where correcting people on here about their spelling, and that just isn't cool!!

I took Sojourner's quote as tongue-in-cheek as I expect she meant it. If that was her first post, well then, maybe it could have been, as you say, "snooty". But her personality so far has been very upbeat and fun. Sometimes I think we (me included) can be a little too sensitive. A little light humor makes this a little more fun....

Again, this is JMHO.

I did Jenny Craig a couple of years ago and actually contacted the ICBINB people. I think it's 10 sprays for a serving. Anything over that and the fat calories really start to add up. Anything < 0.5 grams fat per serving can be listed as FAT FREE.

Thanks Jo and Ark, I was looking at the bottle again this morning and it says 0 0 0 for everything. Sneaky people they are. I make the oatmeal cookies now and again with 4 packets of oatmeal and use about a teaspoon of the spray in the batch. I will have to look at the site and see how many calories that is.
