Skin

Postby alpha femme » June 14th, 2006, 6:21 pm

ok, so it is becoming apparent that my skin will be... not right.
really, i can't be surprised since i did max out at 400 lbs.

does anyone have any suggestions about how to minimize the excess skin?
 or do i just start saving up for the full body lift?

I would give it some more time. Mine is just now starting to firm up a bit but if it does not completely we can try and get a group rate on that body lift you mentioned.

group rates!

yeah, i've only lost 16lbs, but my thighs are starting to look like someone vaccuumed out selective sections. ugh. when i lost the previous weight, it wasn't like this. i'm obviously going to wait-- because i stll have to lose another person off my big ol' butt, but i kinda know it's not gonna be a prettty sight.

Hi, Alex.

Time, my dear, time! One decision at a time. There are SO MANY factors.

After you've been on maintenance for a while, exercising regularly, you'll get a better idea of how your body will decide to deal with the skin itself. My dh has already decided he wants the skin surgically removed...he's been over 300 since he was a teenager and over 400 for much of his adult life. I, on the other hand, am seeing so many changes already! I'm going to wait until I've been on maintenance a year and see what I'm willing to live with and what I'm not. Take a look at Nancy's pics -- no surgery there!

On the other hand, if you've already decided, then save accordingly.
Here's to our mutual success! :buddies: --Diana

I am sweating it over excess skin as well. I have lots of muscle tone..UNDER my skin..the skin itself tho is just not moveing except downward. I am developing massive "wings" and the inner thigh scene is not pretty at all here, it looks like I have empty bags hanging..ugh and when I bend at the waist I have tons of skin that just hangs on my ribs, and stomach..it looks disgusting to me.I can grab handfulls and pull it in any direction. I will take this over being fat...anyday..but I also don't plan on letting it just hang around forever. lol

I am faily sure that once I am done..if not sooner I will be having surgery Hopefully my Dr will list it as a health issue or some such thing...and the insurance will pay for it. will see.

Hugs,
Gina

Hi Alex!!

First of all.. Congrats on getting rid of those 16lbs!! Good for you!!

As for the skin issue.. Here's how I have heard Nancy explain it. (Nancy, feel free to correct me if I get it wrong..lol) Okay... picture a balloon blown up and stretched full of air. Now picture someone letting the air out of it. The balloon now has some wrinkles and there's still some air in there. It's puffy, but you can see it begin to regain it's prior shape. Over TIME (time being the key word) it will become smaller and smaller. The balloon probably won't ever be back to it's perfect orig. state, but it will be close... Our skin is the same. It will "deflate" as the balloon, but it will take time, and it may not look exactly like it did during our pre-weight years.. But we'll be skinny, and most importantly healthier.

Okay..so Nancy sounds so much better explaining it.. lol but that's the gist of it. ;)

Everyone has different factors which will determine how quickly and how much of our skin returns to normal. But as Diana said.. Nancy is living proof of what we have to look forward to.. Have you seen her "spandex" pics.. She def. looks awesome!

I have heard toning exercises help. :weightlift: I plan on slowly toning throughout my journey. But the best thing you can do is be patient. (I know easier said than done..dang it! :x ) You are on the road to breaking out of the shell :hatch: and you will be one sexy chick!

And hey...if you guys do get a group rate.. don't forget to let me know.. No amount of "shaking" is going to get my chest to move back up north after having 2 kids..lol

my cousin and i agree that though ive lost a bit in my tummy...its looks deflated...its so gross lol and im only 21 eek. anyways as you can, start doing toning exercises... it will probably help with it quite a bit. if your still having quite a bit of it then i would save up and get the lift i guess. that is quite a bit of weight to lose. but who knows how things will turn out? good luck though. hope toning helps out

boobs are over-rated... when you still have them.

i like them. i've started offering to buy them their own condo if they stick around after my <snip>language - Mr. Snippy</snip> leaves.
