Silly Bullion question

Postby female1978 » January 18th, 2004, 12:56 pm

I've never been much of a cook, however my body SO craves salt. Why is that by the way? In any case, I've been reading about people drinking bullion and I think I want to as well. Now, I know what bullion cubes are. But how to I make bullion to drink? Do I just buy the cubes and add water, or, does it come in ready to drink brands. And if so, which brand is best? Also, I've also read about peole eating pickles? Is this in lieu of drinking bullion? And if so, which types of pickles are best?

Well I always crave salt, or, is this just a temp thing. Thanks!

From what I understand (and correct me if I'm wrong) 'bouillon' is traditionally those little cubes you drop in hot water. Taste pretty rasky to me.
MBT/Wylers Instant Chicken Broth is also called bouillon sometimes, but it's actually a packet of instant broth, and is REALLY good. The MBT brand can usually be found on the upper shelf in the soup section of your grocery store- a blue and white box. Be sure you don't get the 'low sodium' variety though- it's not as good as the regular, and we do want the salt.

I shall look into the bouillion you suggested. You commented that it tastes "rasky" . What do you mean? Do you have any idea how many calories bouillion has?

The MBT/Wylers instant broth has 10 calories per packet (3g carbohydrate)

'Rasky' must be NorthWest slang. ;) It means really really awful. I don't do cubes anymore.

I have a bullion question also. Can you take many bullions and dissolve them all at once with the appropriate amount of water. Then take that mixture and put it in the fridge so that on a quick fix moment you can just take the already dissolved mixture and heat it up in the microwave?

Has anyone tried this? :?

BOULLION can be your best friend on this program! Especially in the early stages--your body needs some sodium to help stablize blood pressure. And no need to worry if you can't cook (like me!)--if you can boil water, you can make boullion!

I have not "pre-dissolved" any boullion before, but I haven't found it necessary to do either. I usually get the granules as opposed to the cubes because they dissolve better.

I have wondered myself if regular chicken broth in a can is okay. I haven't looked at the label to find out. Something to investigate at the grocery!!

I actually have a can, it says:

Cals - 20
Fat - 1
Sodium - 770
Carb - 1
Sugar - 1
Protein - 1

Now, can we have it?

Also, thanks for all the bullion input, I am not a cook and don't really know what I have because I don't use it. Anyway, I actually have both the squared and instant - YEAH, the cubes are take way to long to dissolve, especially if you don't like to cook.
