Shirataki Noodles

Postby mellowmom » August 20th, 2006, 10:30 am

I've been reading a lot on using these as part of the "green" portion of your lean and green. Tried them, and they're not bad. Similar to the soba noodles used in a lot of Asian dishes. Definitely not like Italian pasta, but they'll do as a legal replacement.

I actually found them at my local Safeway. They are in the "cold box" section in the fresh produce department where the prepackaged salads are kept. You can find Tofu in the same section.

Just in case anyone has a hankering for some "pasta".

I love these noodles. I eat them several times a week. They "fill" a void when I really need something noodley. My Trader joes started carrying them as well. :D

I love them, too. But, I have never seen them in Safeway or Trader Joe's. I usually have to go to an Asian Market. I am gonna check those 2 stores again, though. Thanks

I tried these a while back, but I just couldn't handle it. The texture was simply not worth it.

Do they taste like regular noodles? Or are they mushy?

To me they taste more "rubbery"...not "mushy" at all. Hope this helps. Our local Safeway has them on sale right now two packages for the price of one...so they are only $1.00/bag! I bought ten.

They are definitely rubbery. Have you ever had a soup or something at a thai or oriental restaurant where it had slippery transluscent noodles in it? that's what they're like.

It may be worth a try considering they are on sale!

Thanks!

I was just reading an article in a magazine about these noodles. I didnt realize they could be used as our green. They are supposed to have quite a few health benefits and aid in weight loss. I might try them.

Shirataki Noodles

Postby BettinaV » September 7th, 2006, 12:49 am

I have been reading rave revues of these noodles. I ordered the ones from Miracle Noodles because it seemed that people like these better as far as texture. I think they have less carbs too or something? Anyway, can anyone who has used and like them let me in on some tips and what we can and can't do as Medifasters??? I noticed a lot of information that the fiber actually aids in weight loss and got some people off plateaus so I would like to try.

Thanks.

Hey there,
If you find them on Safeway or Trader Joe's, let me know, please. I can never find them there. I buy them at Lee Lee's Market on Dobson and Warner. But, Safeway is way closer to me--like a block away.

I typically overcook any type of noodle myself... given the size of my stomach, etc. Just cook it a little extra and should be fine.
