Newbie from Texas

Postby alicatcyclist » April 24th, 2007, 9:18 pm

Hello all. I'm a newbie and getting ready to start my program on Thursday. I have two good habits, I love to exercise and I drink lots of water. My downfall is my weakness for junk food. I need all of the support I can get to stay on plan.

As I was reading my welcome information, I was advised to lay off of exercise for the first three weeks of the program. I'm concerned about losing muscle on such a low calorie diet. What advice do you have for me? Also, can I take in more calories so that I can still enjoy my cycling?

Nice to meet you all. I'm going to start looking around the board. :D

Ali,
Muscle loss typically is not caused by the fact that you don't take in alot of calories, it has to do with the lack of protein on low calorie "diets". Medifast is a muscle sparing program. If you look at the meal replacements, you will find that they are almost the same when it comes to protein and carbs. Your lean and green is mostly protein, with some carbs. The overall program is low-fat.
Given the combination of the vitamins, minerals, and carb-protein ratio...... its a great plan, even if it seems to be very low calorie.
Don't fret, if you have been exercising, just cut it in half. If you feel weak, have another replacement. Have the bar or a shake before exercising.
After three weeks, start to slowly up the exercise.
You will do great on this plan..... you already have a head start.

Hope this helps.

Welcome Allie,

I am pretty new here but I am also active. I am using the 70 Shakes as they have more protein. I found my body asking for a bit of a break the first week so I cut my exercise down to just a brisk walk every day. Now I am slowly building back up. Listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs.

You will love this program. I lost 40 lbs with it 3 years ago and now I am back to lose more. It really works!
Reached Goal Nov 2007 61.5 lbs lost
Gained 11 lbs in Mexico 3/08, decided to lose that along with another 5 lbs!

Good luck, and trust me...those first 3 weeks you will definately need to cut your workout in half. You'll get through it just fine and back into full workouts like you have been!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I am excited and I need to hop on over to post my "before" picture. I'm so happy to meet folks who are on the same weight loss journey as I am.

I am going to take the next step in this process by posting my "before" pictures. This is a hard step but one that I really need to take. I am one of those who avoided the mirror and was in denial about all of the weight I have gained over the past few years. I started packing on the pounds when I started my job as a medical secretary and began wearing scrubs to work. Oh how easy it is to gain weight in those things. Simply adjust the drawstring when the pants start getting too snug. (not a good habit).

You'll do great!

Allie:

I wondered that too when I start (just four weeks and 21 lbs ago!) I was already weight lifting with a trainer three days a week and doing cardio. My counselor said to keep doing what I was doing, but don't increase for a while. I did and it worked fabulous!

I think the point is that you are already going to cut your calories and your body is used to doing certain things, you don't want to add a lot of exercise that you aren't used to on top of cutting your intake.

Wow, you exercisers really impress the heck out of me :-P

I don't know if I could handle any more exercise at the moment.

I work out my arms Shakin' my shakes! :exercise:

My legs get a work out running to the potty thanks to all the water. :walk:

And I think I worked my "core" replacing those big ol' Sparkletts bottles at the office. (the bill is definitely going up because of me). :water:

Now that I'm feeling a little better after a few days on the plan, the thought of exercise actually sounds like fun, how weird is that!
