Need some advice on slow-loss...

Postby STLouieGirl » May 19th, 2006, 9:21 am

Hi,
I will hit the 3 week mark this Sunday and am getting a little frustrated!! :x I have done ok up to now, but I wish the lbs. would come off a little faster. Since starting 4-30-06, I have lost 9.5 lbs. :) Here's the Scoop: I am 5'4". My starting weight was 168, goal is 125. I seem to be teetering back and forth between the same 2-3 lbs. Over the past 7 days total loss = 1.5!!!!!!! What gives? I am drinking lots of H2O, sticking to the plan, eating my LG around 6 in the evening…doing everything correctly, as I should as far as I know. :|

Typical Day is:
8 am oatmeal
10:30 soup
1pm Bar
3pm Soup or shake
5:30 LG
8pm pudding

I am easily over 64 oz of water.

Could this slow-loss be due to my past yo-yo dieting habits? What can I do to ‘kick-start’ my metabolism? I feel like my body has adjusted to this new regime and isn’t going to ‘let go’ of the weight. I am no longer ‘chilly’, no headaches; don’t notice the keto-breath anymore. I don’t want to sound greedy…but if I lose at a weekly rate of 3-4 lb I can stay motivated. Please help! I am becoming a little frustrated.

I just came out of this same situation. A couple days ago I increased my calories - was only about 700, now 900, and it's just falling off again.

Maybe you should throw a lean & green meal in.

Brandi, it's funny you say that. I've had red meat all this week which raised my calorie count slightly and I started losing again. I also think I was a little low on the fat intake so that might have helped.

Hi There,
It's a little early for a weight loss stall, but it is pretty typical to see a slow down -- or even no loss at all about week three. Your body is adjusting to it's new eating program. Remember weight loss is not linear. We would love to just click right down 3 - 4 pounds each week but few of us do. Some weeks we lose more, some less. Just be very very compliant, hang it there and soon that nasty scale will be moving again.

Hey I've only been averaging 2.5 pounds a week, don't feel bad. :) It says average loss is 2 to 5 pounds a week you know, and losing is losing! :D

I agree. Take your total average and don't worry about a slow week.

You only have 43 total pounds to lose, so you cannot expect to lose nearly as fast those of us who have much more weight to take off.

And yes, yo-yo dieting will slow down your metabolism. I blame that for my incredibly slow losses, too. But I AM losing, and that's what's important. Hang in there and stick with the program. It's a little soon to start trying to jump-start things, IMHO. I'd give it a couple more weeks to see if it picks up, although 1.5 a week is still pretty darn good.

If it slows down more or stops, that's the time to start trying other stuff (and adding a few calories has helped me, too - but you have to be careful about what you add. I have red meat more often and at least a few days a week, I have an extra supplement).

Hang in there St Louis girl! Stick with it! I had a period right at a month where I was stopped (I gained actually!!!) being totally compliant. I added a shake and it started going down again, but I don't know if you're to that point yet, you might just be at an adjustment period!

Hang in there. Our bodies do funny things. I just had 12 days of losing NOTHING!! i quite frequently have 5-7 days, but 12 has been the longest stretch. Finally Wednesday I dropped 2 pounds, and another one today. The funny thing is though that the last week everyone has been commenting on how they've noticed i've lost a lot of weight. They didn't seem to notice much until I got stuck. I tried on all my smaller clothes this week & they all fit or are even getting big!... but they weren't a couple of weeks ago & I'm pretty much at the same weight as I was then. So... I've been losing inches. Some weeks we lose inches, some weeks we lose pounds. I haven't done any cheating, but when it gets to 12 days without losing, I'm bound & determined to stick with it because every day that I don't lose brings me one day closer to the day I WILL lose! Keep up the good work & be good!

Very well put, Becky! I seem to lose the same way you have described. I've had many of plateaus. I don't even count the days anymore because I've become confident that the weight will come off in it's own time. For me, weighing every day has been an educational experience. I have learned what normal is for me.

I agree Jo--it's a learning experience when you weigh everyday! I just like to watch for patterns. It also helps me not to get discouraged when I know i've gone for X amount of days before & then started losing again. I lost another pound today! So, that makes 4 since Wednesday. Making up for that long stretch without. Ok by me. ;)
