Leg cramps! - help!!

Postby ChattieCathy57 » May 16th, 2006, 6:01 pm

I've been getting these sporatic leg muscle cramps (like a charlie-horse so to speak) :deadhorse: but not in the back of my leg ... in the front muscle. It's not associated with excercise; It just happens at the weirdest times ... and it comes on hard ~ then goes just as fast. It's just scary (and it almost cripples me to the ground when it hits).

A girlfriend of mine thought that perhaps I needed some extra nutrient or "something" in my diet (neither one of us know what that 'something' is). Has anyone else had this problem happen? Does anyone know what I could take to make this not happen?? :hugblue:

Thanks :)
Cathy

that's happened to me, it's excruciating, but then just goes away.

try having some bouillon, extra salt, 2 pickles..., something to increase the sodium which might help, it helped me

This sounds silly, but maybe a diet coke for some sodium too?

I've been drinking water with electrolyte powder in it which helps.

I had these leg cramps while pregnant and the doctor recommended potassium.

Potassium is what I was thinking as well. My mother always told me to eat more bananas (which we can't on MF) when I had leg cramps.
