Laser Hair Removal

Postby Arklahoma » July 13th, 2006, 9:22 am

Anyone done it? I know of one person who's had it done and she raves about it. I'm considering it and just wonder what it's like.

Add me to the list of people you know who have done it. I am relatively unhairy to begin with, only had to shave about every 14-18 days. But, I went for it anyway. It only took 2 treatments for me. I have been hair free for over a year now, and I LOVE it. I don't know about the cost there, but here it is only $100 per treatment. I know at some places it can get quite expensive.

Lauri,

If I can get personal for a moment......what hair are we talking about? I've been intrigued about using laser for my dang blasted upper lip. You made it sound like you had it on your legs.....wouldn't that be great? I have to shave every other day!

Side note to Turkey: Don't read the above! :x :x

SuperMom ~ I've got a call in to two different locations and am waiting for them to get back with me regarding pricing; however, your place sounds like a steal.

How bad does it hurt? Did you need the anesthetic cream before? How long were the treatments and what area did you have done? What was the after-effect like? How frequently would one have to go back (like every 3 wks or every 6 wks, etc.)? If you'd rather answer in private, just let me know. Whatever works for you.

Jo--I had my legs, my bikini "region", my underarms and my chin done. I had a few hairs that liked to grow just under my chin.

Ark--How does it feel?? Well, I have tattoos. I kind of compare it to that. But, I think it feels kind of like having a bad sunburn and then getting it scratched. It stings at first, but you get used to it. So worth it. And, with the numbing gels on the market now, you should be able to do it pain free. The $100 was for the legs and bikini. It was another $50 for my underarms and my neck/chin area. And I agree, it is a steal. It was pretty fast, and she said that it usually takes 4 or 5 treatments to get ALL of the hair gone. But for me, it just took 2. She also said that people with fair complexions and lighter hair tend to have less coarse hair and it removes easier. So, just FYI, since you are darker than me, it might take a couple more treatments. My friend Julie ia about your complexion and it took 4 treatments for her. Would I do it again?? MOST DEFINITELY---but I don't have to, because I am hairless!! It takes longer for darker, coarser hair. I was there for an hour and a half. They recommend follow up at 8-12 weeks here, other clinics may vary. Discomfort afterward--minimal. I just put on alo vera cream. DONT'T use lotions with perfumes for a few days. i recommend just plain ole aloe vera.

One last thing---dont go buy the numbing gels at Sally or anywhere else before you talk to the technician. They might be flamable. I wouldn't think so, since they used them when they did my permanent make up and it was done with a laser, but just be sure!!

Did you go to one of those laser treatment centers? Were the people medically trained? Inquiring minds......

You know I looked into this once and the price was about the same if I can remember right. I was told that it might take a few visits and I remember thinking about $500.00 for everything. Everything meaning my chin. I don't think I would want it done anywhere else...well maybe one place but I think the pain there would be too muc so I will just continue to shave  TMI sorry

Yes, they are trained. We have a dermatologist here that has an "Advanced Skin Treatment Center". She offers the laser hair removal services in her office. Her name is Dr. Elaine Cook. Her website is skintreatment dot com. Check her out, if you would like!!

Hey, I just got the quote back from one place and the pricing is as follows:

Upper Lip ~ $100 per treatment
Chin ~ $140 per treatment
Underarms ~ $135 per treatment
Lower Legs ~ $280 per treatment
Full Legs ~ $500 per treatment

They say that most people require 3 to 6 treatments so this could really add up, but I'm seriously thinking about doing it. Maybe try the upper lip and see how it goes. Heck, if I start now then I could be hairless and thin by the end of the year (then I'll have to borrow SuperMom's Fendi bag/sandal combo and be totally hot)!!!

Definitely gonna check out some other places and reputations, as well.

No, someone else did my makeup. I definitely DO NOT recommend her. There is another place here called minka's garden. I went to them to get my permanent makeup fixed after someone else did it. I got eyelash enhancement (what I asked for was smokey eyeliner) and I got full lips in a nude color (what I had asked for was a pale pink, with a pink liner). It looks okay now. I had to have my lips fixed and all of my "eyeliner" fell off. So, I don't really brag about that. If I had paid more money and gotten Minka's to do it in the first place, I would be SO happy with it. Lesson learned. In another year, I will have waited long enough to get a new color done on my lips and I plan to have them done AGAIN, in the pink shade I desired in the first place, and have my eyes done the way I want them. This time, I will go to Minka's and have it done right.

I was going to say (before ark got her qoute) I want to live where you all live because the price here in California are outrageous! (comparably)

I looked into it too, just for face. It was $600-$800 for the first treatment and not even sure how much for each additional. I would LOVE to not have to wax that upper lip/chin area ever again! Thankfully I am in the business and can wax every week if I so choose.

Ark if you have it done I want to hear about! :)

GEESH!! That IS high. Around here, RN's are treated somewhat like royalty. Anywhere (well, almost) you go that you have to fill out an application of sorts, you get a discount on purchases when they see you are a registered nurse. I get a smaller discount because I am a nursing student. Also, docs around here like cosmetic surgeons, cosmetic dentists, anything that is typically not covered by insurance, will do procedures for the cost of materials and anesthesia only, or will do them for free if you agree to help in their practice for an agreed upon amount of time. With the cosmetic surgeons, they like to have RN's recover their patients, remove bandages and pull drains at follow up visits, etc. Most of the cosmetic surgery here is done at a small day surgery facility. There are 3 surgeons who have offices in the same building (it is an old small scale shopping center that has been remodeled). They like to transfer the pts. to their office to recover. As a student nurse and someone who is losing a lot of weight and will most likely need a little nip/tuck here and there, the idea of getting it for free and learning a little more from an area of medicine that we don't rotate through is intrigueing.
