Ketosis

Postby alpha femme » June 13th, 2006, 7:39 pm

I have a lame question.
If you eat something that knocks you out of ketosis, how long between eating it and seeing the results on a ketostix?

I'm not cheating, I'm just really curious.

My understanding is that on this program, the state of ketosis we are in is so light that it doesn't even show on a stick. I say if you are following the program, and you are losing weight and feel good, you are in... if you aren't following it, and start to feel lousy, you may be out.
This is by no means a scientific approach, but, I'll say it anyway.

Hey, Alex!

The topic of ketosis has been brought up a lot on this forum. For more of what has been said in the past, try doing a search on the topic. Good stuff, Maynard!

For me, I know when I'm back in ketosis when my energy goes back up, I stop fixating on anything NOT on the protocol, and I no longer feel like harming my husband for no apparent reason. Depending on what knocked me out, it could be 1 day, it could be 4 (and then I keep track so it doesn't happen again).
Here's to our mutual success! :buddies: --Diana

i don't know about it being "light" ketosis. i used ketostix, and i was right at "moderate ketosis." i've had the blood work done, and i'm healthy, so i'm not overly concerned.

but there was no doubt about the strip reaction.

i guess what it comes down to is that when i was incorporating the l-n-g meal, i just didn't feel as good. maybe i'll just check it for a day or two after a have a meal and see what happens.

I too use the keto stix and usually show a light to moderate amount but I also have had times when it did not show so you can not ALWAYS go by these. As long as you stick to the Quickstart Guide you will be fine.

Your urine does not change color while in ketosis. Dark urine is a very concentrated urine. Your urine should be light in color if you are properly hydrated.
Most people that are adaquately hydrated ( with the tons of water we drink) will still be in ketosis and show trace on the sticks due to the dilution of the urine from the extra fluids.

According to my doctor, your urine will turn dark yellow as you are entering into a state of ketosis. It usually turns almost clear after a day or two. I have found that to be true in my experiences.

Hmmmmmm
Just be very very compliant and then no one has to worry about ketosis.
It's mild -- but just keep concentrating on those pesky pounds leaving. That's the most important thing!! :D

Odor with ketosis is possible as well as the dreaded dragon breath.
Ascicles, I would check with your doctor again on this one, it is possible you misunderstood him. I have been in medicine for over 20 years and if you have deep color to your urine your urine is very concentrated. One other thing that can cause color in your urine is vitamins.
I just wanted people to know that they can be in ketosis and not register on the sticks, especially if they are drinking lots and lots of fluid. The extra fluid dilutes the urine so ketone bodies do not concentrate enough to register. Unless you have a superior metabolism which if you do,I am jealous.:)

No, I am 100% positive that he was talking about this. When I went in for his initial checkup, his first question was if my urine was dark a day or two after I started. I told him yes and he said that was my body going into ketosis.

I have fallen off the plan a few times for different reasons, and this has ALWAYS been the case. I drink well over 100oz. of water a day, even when I have been off plan.
