Joy's Best Homestyle Medifast Chili

Postby jump4joy » April 19th, 2006, 1:44 pm

Here's a recipe I developed in January 2003 the last time I was successfully on Medifast. Just one more variation of the many good recipes out there:

Joy's Best Homestyle Medifast Chili

Pour chili packet into bowl and add 1/2 cup cold water.
Add 1 T.(tablespoon)LaVictoria Red Taco Sauce--(I use medium instead
of mild to give it a little kick.) Stir.
Microwave on high 2 1/2 minutes. Stir again.
Let stand 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. (the box says 1 min., but that leaves
the texture a little...uh...chewy)
Microwave for another minute. Stir some MORE.
Now add 2 T. of your favorite CHUNKY salsa (when you're on a full
liquid fast and DYING for food, chunks are a "good thing")
Now add 1 tsp. Kraft grated parmesean cheese.
STIR. (pretty please?)
And finally, as so eloquently stated on the box:
"Product will thicken as it cools."

There you have it! And the beauty of it is that it only adds
25 calories, 3 carbs, and 1 protein for a grand total of:
135 calories
19 g carbs
12 g protein Enjoy!

You could also add a tablespoon of some ff sour cream for added flavor and creaminess withvery few added calories.

A couple of caveats: Salsa used to be on the allowed-foods list, but apparently it no longer is. And parmesan is not allowed.

Thanks for your comments Robin. I developed this recipe when salsa was included in the program. Using salsa never hindered my weight-loss on Medifast before, but of course, anyone using this recipe must take current protocols under consideration. As for the parmesan, you're right, it isn't listed as an alllowed condiment, but I got the "go ahead" from my then health advisor and the Medifast nurse. One tsp. of parmesan only contains 10 calories, 1.5 fg, 0 carbs, and 2g protein---which I consider a very negligable amount....just my opinion....not trying to push it on anyone else. I never had a slow-down or problem staying in ketosis while using this chili recipe. But please feel free to ignore this recipe if you want to. :(

The condiment list really needs to be updated cause FF sour cream is no longer allowed either :(

When did they take salsa out of the allowed list? I use it in almost all the soups... oh well I guess I have another 7 months to find a work around...

Yeah, it's too bad. Sorry for posting this folks...don't want to lead anyone off the ''straight and narrow" MF Path.

It's a great recipe, though. Try it when you get on Maintenance if you'd like.

Keep on Medifastin'!

Well, mine was just a caveat to other folks. I still use salsa; I figure if it was in the rules when I started, then it's OK. Besides, it's a vegetable - I use a spoonful or so in my soup or chili and if necessary I'll eat two fewer green beans at dinner.

Same here. I'll continue using salsa...but I only use it in the chili, which I have once or twice a week. (sans the sour cream, that is. I got the idea to use sour cream from this site, btw). That's good that you offset your salsa with less veggies...it's best to be careful and maintain the MF balance.

I was kinda joking. :) I can't imagine a couple of green beans, or even 1 spoonful of salsa, makes all that much difference. I probably have about a tablespoon of salsa two or three times a week. I don't ever have pickles or celery or even the other condiments listed, so I assume it's fine.
