You have gotten some great advice. Mine is: Keep your cool. You will do great. Salad is really not all that bad, GI wise, and so many people eat salads these days, you would not stand out if you order salad. If, on the other hand, you don't have a choice, just do the best you can do, eat a few bites here and there, and just mention that you are not really used to eating during the day, as you are usually sleeping and work at night, and that you are just not all that hungry. But, I am willing to bet, they won't say a thing. I am so excited for you, and I hope it goes great. I will be thinkin of you. Sendin a prayer up for you right now.

My guess is they'll be so wowed by you, they won't even notice what you are or aren't eating.

Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here and ask why not just let it be known, you know like the truth? Just wondering why you would put yourself through something you don't feel ready for just to not seem weird??? I guess I don't get it.

Because she wants the job? And usually if people think you're "weird," they're less likely to offer you one. I sure wasn't interested in discussing my weight issues or my weight-loss plan or whatever with potential employers. I wanted to discuss my accomplishments and qualifications, and why I was right for their company, not my personal issues.

DogMa really echoed my thoughts exactly. To go on a physician monitored full fast that involves zero food is kind of radical and only for people that have a lot of weight to lose. This hospital will be entrusting me with a brand new CardioThoracic department that they've spent a lot of money on. My budget and responsibility will be pretty significant if offered the position. If they think I'm too radical then I will definitely be passed over for someone more mainstream and conservative.

You have some great advice and I think that you are going to do fine. You can eat responsibly without seeming weird. Dressings on the side, no butter, no bread - that isn't radical that is just good healthy eating. So if you can do that, I think you will be fine. I also agree with going on the 5/1 plan prior to the date so as to ready your tummy for food. You know that once this is over you can go back to what you want - it is one day and it is an important day - follow what you know, use the brains that we all know you have - you have given wisdom abundantly to all of us over these past 4 months so I have no doubt you will be fine.

You shall be in my thoughts and prayers - knock em dead!!!

Postby Arklahoma » June 22nd, 2006, 7:34 am

Just wanted to update the thread and let you guys know that both of my interviews went well. My first interview was in Akron and they all but offered me the job on the spot. They mentioned how there would have to be three more interviews (staff, peer, and physicians) but they would be willing to rush those through very quickly if I were interested b/c they wanted to snag me before another facility and it was really just semantics, anyway.

The second interview is the dream job that I really want and it is in Columbus. The Director of Nursing (person who would be my boss) and the VP of Nursing interviewed me first for about 30 minutes before I went to discussion panels with the staff and peers. They told me that they wanted to spend another hour with me after those but when the time came they backed out. The Director told me that she and the VP of Nursing felt that my resume spoke for itself and they liked my discussion from earlier that a.m. and that they didn't need to speak with me again. She then went on to say how they had two more interviews scheduled over the next couple of days, but that she would be speaking with the persons that I had met with in the group interviews and if they were ready to make a decision then she would not be interviewing further and we would move very quickly. I guess that means that I have a good chance of getting the job b/c I feel like the staff and peer interviews went exceptionally well. Anyway, I just got off the phone with the recruiter and she said that these are very positive signs (she's been recruiting for this hospital for about 7 years). She's going to be speaking with them today and get back with me.

The food is a totally different story. Everyone has a different idea of healthy eating and the choices were not that great ~ practically a carb festival with pastries and pasta, but I didn't sweat it b/c I know that I can jump right back on MF. I ate whatever was offered to me in reasonable portions and had no gastric issues at all. I must really be sensitive to carbs b/c I got back home and weighed only to discover that I had gained ten pounds!!! I know that this is all water b/c I did NOT consume anywhere near 35,000 calories.

Keep crossing your fingers for me. This job is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Hopefully, I'll know something very soon b/c the suspense is killing me.
