Husband's Question

Postby kmr » April 21st, 2006, 8:13 am

I just had to post this while I was reading the posts this morning...
I was walking the dogs early this morning and as I was walking back up the driveway, my husband comes up to me and says, I'm going to get some breakfast. Do you want me to bring you back a coffee, bagel, breakfast sandwich or something?" Of course I said "no" and kept walking. Now he KNOWS I'm trying to stay on program and he is fully aware of how the program works because I've informed him of it last time I tried it and before I started this time. So what possessed him to ask me that question? Of course I would like a Taylor ham and cheese sandwich with a large coffee with 1/2 & 1/2 and 2 Splenda, but he knows I can't have that right now. Just wanted to vent, since I was thinking about it. Thanks all

It sounds like he was just trying to be nice and wasn't thinking things out.

My husband, who is the sweetest guy, does that on occassion too.

Once, while at the corner deli, he ordered a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for himself for breakfast and got 1/2 dozen bagels for my son and his weekend sleep-over friends ... he then turned to me and said, "You want something Babe?", to which I replied, "Yes!, I would LOVE a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich but I think I'll pass thank you". He just looked at me ... I could see the reality hit him and he felt SO BAD.

He didn't mean to be "mean", he was just being considerate, and we all know how forgetful guys can be! - sorry fellas ;)

He also did that to me in a Quizno's the other day but as soon as he said it, he realized and almost died that he slipped again ...lol

As a matter of fact, my husband asked me why he always seems to put his foot in his mouth ...LOL... I told him he couldn't help it, that he was just 'wired' that way :D

I also understand your need to vent!
THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE!!

This is the right place to come and vent! I know I have had to do it on more than one ocassion.

As you go along the hubby's do get better. The other night I had cooked fried eggplant for the family and was eating my L&G and I reached out and put a piece of the fried eggplant on my plate..I thought poor hubby was gonna pass out! He screamed at me "what are you doing?" I just looked at him, tore a piece off, and gave it to the dog, and then dear hubby started breathing again! So give it a while and he will adjust.

I think he was just trying to be nice, too, and maybe didn't think. Although at least coffee was part of the offer. You could have that.

It was probably just an innocent question. But it can certainly be frustrating. My boyfriend came home last night with a half gallon of butter pecan ice cream and said, "I brought you a present." I said "What?" And he brings this container of ice cream from around his back. My eyes grew as large as saucers  and I said, "Out, damn spot!"

He was very sorry. Sometimes men just don't think!

Well, I knew I would get this from my husband, so before I even started I told him how much I loved the fact that he knows how much I love Big Hunk candy and ICEE and pizza and etc...And I just asked him to stop bringing me these things when he comes home from work. So, instead he brings me a nice big Diet Big Red and a big ol bag of Sonic Ice or crushed ice from this other little joint near our house. I know how you feel. It is so hard. Just habbit for him, though, I suppose.

Mickey---Glad to see you back!!

Men just don't think sometimes, I think. :) My husband who's doing this with me, is becoming my arch enemy, because he's constantly trying to get me to cheat. If I cheat, then it's ok if he cheats...kwim?

I'm sure your dh was asking to be nice and forgot that you're on medifast.

Husband's question

Postby casja » April 21st, 2006, 11:28 am

I believe your husband was just being thoughtful. I think of the times I have done this same thing to my dear wife. I was just trying to include her in my events for the day. Except for today, I have to think your husband is supportive. [/i]

Sounds like something my husband would do ... I think he was just trying to be nice and wasn't really thinking.

Sort of like when my hubby asked me to make buttered popcorn for him last weekend -- I stormed into the family room and shot him the evil eyeball :x saying "when pigs fly"! He then apologized :dooh: and said that he forgot how difficult that would be for me. So, he went to the local movie theatre, bought himself a bag of movie popcorn and came home and ate it out of my sight (and smell). :hide:

Time out on the guy bashing !!!! My wife is just as bad as your husbands. She tried to cook non-threatening meals while I was starting MF but now that I'm in the groove she makes more normal meals for the rest of the family. This afternoon she brought home a chocolate pudding cake that she had a coupon for. It looked yummy and I was almost tempted to have a nice fat forkful. The good thing is that my two teenagers will make short work of it and it should be gone by late tomorrow at the latest.

It's all about the temptations that are out there. We all know that we've been weak in the past and need to stay focused on what pushes our buttons and be able to say no while we're on the plan and yes in portions that make sense when we transition to maintenance.

I'm never going to buy anything else for my girlfriend...ever. I don't want to feel the wrath of evil stares and angry responses.
