We dealt with temps in the 90s for a week or more. Very high for Northern NY but today it is wicked cold. It dropped yesterday with rain all day. Right now in our house it is 72 and I think colder outside.

I am suprised that none of the AZ folks have jumped on this thread. It was 118 in Phoenix on Friday, but today it supposed to only get to 112. But this is pretty normal for us in the middle of summer. People who have lived at least one summer in Phoenix know that you stay out of the sun, drink a lot of water and just ride it out.

I have to mow my lawn today, but I am going to wait till around 7pm. I wait till the sun goes below the horizon, but it is still light out. That is my summer gardening "magic hour".

Not that I have anything against Arizona, but it seems that people who live near Phoenix are crazy enough to live there with the heat that you guys get all of the time. I hear the winters are nice
We aren't used to Phoenix temperatures here in the bay area though. Right now its 111 in Vallejo. I'm inside an un-air conditioned exhibit hall just trying to survive the day
Hope all is well with everyone. Lets just all say a prayer for all of those folks in New York who have had no power for a week. Any news there on that end?

Like Mike said, we aren't use to this heat, for this long anyway! We can't keep flowers alive or our veggie garden even while watering morning and night.
We live in this area for a reason, THE WEATHER! lol

Ok, I'm going to have to admit I'm getting grumpy. I'm living in a sauna. The dratted heat is stilllll here. I sat in church yesterday with sweat rolling down me and I told my hubby just to pull out his shirt. He was soaked too. We both looked like we had just finished a marathon!!! Yup a marathon of pew sitting :? Not only is it hot but of all things it is humid. We have fans running ... no airconditioning at home either. Our poor bird is sitting with his wings out and panting. I tried spraying him with a mister but he didn't like it. He has had several baths a day though. The cat is laying on her back with her paws in the air. Our poor dog -- a big black English Mastiff has headed for the oak floor and is stretched out as far as possible. I know whine whine whine.... but afterall it is Washington State.....

Yeah, the thing about Phoenix heat is that it is not humid. If you are outside for short bursts (like less than 10 minutes) you will not be drenched in sweat. Any sweat you do have will evaporate away. You can breathe. I grew up back east where any temp above the high 80s was practically unbearable because of the blanket of moisture that came with it.

Another nice thing about Phoenix is that everywhere is airconditioned. Houses, apartments, cars, businesses. When I was first looking at houses out here, my Mom would keep asking "does it have AC?". I had to explain to her that you can't find a place without it. Find a dwelling without some kind of cooling system installed, and you have one of 3 things: Cardboard shack, abandoned deathtrap or historical monument.

Yes, it's hot hot hot here in Az.

Crazy thing is, not everywhere has AC like you posted. Unless I'm shopping in the wrong areas.

Friday I went to lunch and the restaraunts air was down and they didn't tell us until after I asked why it was so hot. Got oil change and it was hot as he-- in Jiffy Lube, then got a pedicure and sweated some more in the nail salon.

I'm a Realtor and you would be surprised how many houses are hot or the vacant ones that have the air set on 85 if theres air on at all.

Even at Kohl's on Sunday was ridiculous in there. They cashier told me the manager controls the air and they had to watch budget because sales had been down! What???? I said they were crazy and sales would continue to be down if the store wasn't cooler than that!

I've lived here all my life but wish sometimes that other people would realize how important it is to keep their businesses cool.

It's miserable to be somewhere and sweat the whole time

The heat here in northern Utah has been brutal! In the low 100's every day. Luckily our humidity is LOW, so a dry heat is definitely preferable to a humid heat. Last night the overnight LOW was 77 degrees....a pretty warm night. Today has been a little cooler....only 91 right now at 2:00 in the afternoon. My flowers have been dropping like flies....I've had to buy several plants to replace my dead ones. I really hate the summer-heat! We just got a/c last year (we used to have a swamp cooler....those only work in low-humidity areas) and I'm lovin' it. I'm definitely staying indoors most of the time. Luckily, we have a nice mix of the four seasons here......can't wait till Fall!

Well I havn't left the house today, it's 108 today. I have had so many headaches lately that I just didn't want to be going in and out of the heat today. The morning was cooler so I was able to get out and water some plants and have the baby play outside. She is ever sad to be indoors all the time. She loves to be outside!

I have no idea how you AZ people handle it! I would never be able to leave my house! lol

I live in Topeka, Kansas. Last week it got up to 106. Cooled off over the weekend to the mid 80's. Boy was that nice. Tomorrow it is supposed to be back up to 97. We also have horrible humidity here so with the heat index it can make it feel like 110-115 some days. There has been an email going around town. It is really cute. Here is the link if you are interested. It's from the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends cartoon.
