Can you heat the shakes?

Postby Elidh » July 25th, 2006, 3:06 pm

Is it ok to microwave the shake mixes? Has anyone ever done this?

I havn't done that, but I don't see why not...you can bake them in some recipies.

I'm sure others know more about this.

I have my chocolate shakes hot all the time. Just don't bring them to a boil.

I have put the dutch chocolate in coffee. Diana puts the french vanilla in coffee all the time. Personally, I like the cocoa in coffee. Also, cocoa blended with ice.. yummy.

The only thing that I don't think can be heated is the pudding. I accidently grabbed a pack of chocolate pudding once (instead of a shake) and it did not mix at all.

Whatever you do though, DO NOT shake up any beverage that is heated. It will blow the top off and you will ahve a total mess.

MMMmmmm...I'm thinking a warm vanilla shake might resemble a Starbuck's Vanilla Creme drink....

FYI, here's how I make my hot shakes. They come out perfect every time. I shake them first in my shaker using about 10 oz. of water. Then I pour the shake in a large cup and nuke for 1 min. 45 sec. That's it.

Mixing the shakes with hot water can be a lumpy experience. And shaking a hot shake can be disasterous....been there. oh dear, repressed memories of a hotel bathroom that will never be the same.....

I did not like the banana shakes at all until I started nuking them then adding a little cinnamon and nutmeg--tastes almost like eggnog! Too hot for these now, but when the weather cools I will prolly order some more.

It's fine to heat things up or cool things down. The only warning is just as Jo said--- If you mix the soy based things with hot water, hot coffee etc. the soy will cook and you'll have lumps which are almost impossible to get mixed in. The very best way to do it is to mix it first and then heat. I toooo love the hot cocoa iced in the blender. I sometimes add instant coffee powder, and a bit of a S/f syrup .. toated hazelnut is good. That way I make myself a fappuchino!! :D
