Ground Chicken/Turkey Indian style... can i have this?

Postby Karakuri » June 27th, 2007, 1:54 pm

my eyes are going cross-eyed trying to figure out what i can and cannot have. i'm about to give-up on ground meats at this rate. Canada doesn't seem to have most of the stuff the USA has. sucks.

ANYWAY

here's the general run down of the recipe in question. could someone please tell me if i can make this for myself? the recipe states it serves 3-4 people.

3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2.5cm (1 inch) cinnamon stick
4 cardamon pods
2 bay leaves
115g (4oz) chopped onions
3 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
2 teaspoons peeled, finely grated fresh ginger
560g (1 1/4 lb) minced chicken or turkey
180-200g lightly cooked frozen peas <- leaving that bit in, but will remove it from the recipe when i make it.
1/4 teaspoon ground tumeric
1 teaspoon store-bought garam masala
1/4 teaspon chilli powder
1/2-1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
freshly ground black pepper

note: the large spices are not meant to be eaten.

so how can i alter this to make it MF friendly? this being only the lean part of the L&G.

thanks in advance!

*edit* oh! if i can have this (altered or not) then i'll try it out and see if it's any good. if it is, i'll post the full recipe here. ^_^

It seems pretty friendly, although onions are off the list now, and remove the peas as you said you would. I'm not sure what cardamon or garam masala is, so can't speak to that.

Cardamom and garam masala are both spices - Cardamom seeds are usually used whole (can be removed later) or sometimes ground, depending on the recipe. Garam Masala is a blend of spices (ground) used in Indian cooking.

Recipe made me drool  hope it gets blessed by the MF gods!

woo!

i am going to give this a shot tonight then... the cardamon is in seed form and will be removed after cooking. so that's no biggie there.

peas are, for certain, out.... crossing my fingers that it'll turn out alright.

btw... if anyone IS interested, the recipe is from the book: Madhur Jaffrey's Quick & Easy Indian Cookery (Paperback)
