Gimme SALT!?

Postby Susynne » January 20th, 2006, 9:48 pm

I tried researching salt and didn't really find what I need to know.
I am CRAVING salt!!! I've never salted my food before, not ever. Now I can't get enough! With high blood pressure this is a no-no. But show me a pickle and it magically disappears along with the contents of the jar. I salt everything... I have found some self restraint, but I can't get over the cravings. Got any idea whats up with that, anyone?

Susynne, Even though you never added salt to your food, you are probably still having much less salt than you are used to due to all of the salt in prepared foods. You aren't getting so much now, so your body is missing it. I don't think you need to worry about having a boullion or even salting your veggies if you feel the need for salt.....just MHO.

Thanks for the feedback, and you could be right.

;) :?: What does MHO mean?, I know I can be blonde, but can't figure that out......probably go 'duh' when you tell me...... :?

I do appreciate the response...it's just really weird for me....worse than pregnancy cravings, even tho those were two decades ago I remember.
Anyway....Thanks again. :D

Edit;, just 'my honest opinion?'

This is coming from NOT AN EXPERT, so take everything I say with a (ha ha) grain of salt.

If I understand correctly, sometimes when your body is slightly dehydrated or trying to replace electrolytes, that can manifest as a salt craving - too bad they haven't come out with sugar free Gatorade yet. I've also heard that if you have an iodine deficiency, that can manifest as a salt craving as well (due to the fact that most of our table salt is iodized).

Just some possibilities, which may or may not be plausible.
