Postby HOPE » April 5th, 2006, 6:35 am

Hello All!!! Can we have turnips??? I was reading a magazine and it said as treat for replacement of french fries when someone is on a "diet" that cutting up turnips, coating them with olive oil and salting them... then baking them crispy!! this sounds awesome, but is it too good to be true?????? Would this work for my "green"????
thanks!!!!

Hmmmm....maybe so, turnips are on the vegetable list in the quick start book!

I've never had turnips before...but I'd sure be willing to try them.
I actually don't even think I've seen one before.

I don't know about coating them with olive oil. You would probably need to use something less fatty.

Mmmm! That sounds yummy. Turnips ARE in the allowed veggies.

Joelie, Turnips are like root vegetables....they look kinda like beetroot, but white/pink in color.

LOL! Well I am pretty happy to hear that, I bought some at the grocery store but didn't have any idea how I was going to cook them! Now I will try that with Pam. Thanks for the idea! :)

As long as you use the Olive Oil spray I think it would be fine and please let us know how they are.

Heck I might buy a turnip today and try this no that I am thinking about it!

I was hoping I was okay to try!!!!! ANd the PAM olive oil spray is a good idea, however I was told that a tablspoon of EVOO wasnt a bad thing... it keeps the "plumbing" working !!! hahaha So I can imagine a little oil would hurt us!!!!!

Sounds interesting. You may want to try wetting them with water and then seasoning them and skip the oil. You also want to limit yourself to one Turnip. One medium turnip is approximately 35 calories, 8 grams carbs and 2 grams fiber.
