Digital "Food" scale

Postby SueInSLO » February 26th, 2006, 9:48 am

Hi gang!

We're headed out to go shopping and while I'm out I want to purchase a digital food scale for the kitchen.

Anyone have one to recommend??

Thanks in advance!

Hi Susie,

I can't recommend a specific brand. But, I have found that I really like the one's where you can put any container on (before weighing the food) and then reset to zero. That way, for example, you can place your dinner plate on the scale...reset to zero...and then weigh your meat directly on your plate. Saves time and dishes!

I've used digital scales from Wal-Mart, Target, Weight Watchers, and Williams Sonoma (everyone in may family has a digital food scale). I haven't been able to tell a significant difference--except in how long they last.

Hope that helps. Happy shopping! :D

I just got one about 2 days ago. I really like it. It's called 'Trimmer' and the weighing plate is glass and metal and the color is metallic tone.
I agree with Lynda, this one has the 'Tare' Setting as well, makes it much easier to deal with. I ordered mine online through amazon but it was a target product.

Happy Shopping!

Gina

I just bought one from Alfred Sung; it was the only one the store I went to had so I bought it. I love it.

I had one from Panasonic and I didn't like it as much; it just wasn't accurate.

Stay away from the ones with bowls or plactic (they are not digital). Those break very easily and also are not accurate.

I think I'm too late to chime in, but what the heck. I got mine at Target and I love it. I've had it a couple of years now (first bought it for WW). It's got the "tare" feature where you can set it at zero (either after you put the plate on it or I do it after I put my veggies on the plate sometimes, if the veggies are ready first).

I've had a horrible time finding one in my area. For now, I'm using a manual scale intended to weigh postage. It is extremely accurate though, so I can deal with it until I find something better.

You can always get one online. Or go to your local Weight Watchers, assuming there is one. They have a little store in their meeting places, and usually include digital food scales.

Yeah, I'll probably do that in the future. I've gotten pretty good at guessing the correct weight though. I can usually get 8 ounces of chicken (frozen) right on. That usually ends up about 6-6.5 oz. after cooking, along with a little piece that I include to push it up to 7 oz.

Hi Ascices - If you're still in the market, I got my food scale at Linens n Things, they had a good selection of them there and I couldn't do without it (I'm no good at judging things like that  ).
