Angry Morning

Postby Arklahoma » May 2nd, 2006, 3:26 pm

This morning, I had to get up bright and early to head to the hospital for committe meetings. Dress code is business attire - no scrubs. Because my dress pants were hanging off of me, I bought a new pair two weeks ago. I only bought one pair b/c I rarely dress up and b/c I'v been losing fairly quickly.

Imagine my surprise, when I ran to get dressed, and these pants were hanging off of me like a homeless person. I ran to the mirror and almost cried b/c I looked so bad and unprofessional. I was soooo angry and was spouting off every 4 letter word in the book while my husband just sat back and watched. I stomped, I ran around the house, went through every closet and could find no other clothing options. I was furious ...

The moment was classic. My husband put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Let me get this straight. You're actually angry because your pants are too big?"

It only took about five seconds before my entire life flashed before my eyes and I remembered how I'd been overweight since I was probably in the 5th grade. This was certainly a new problem that I had never encountered and I truly didn't know how to handle it. Obviously, I had to go on and wear the huge pants but I didn't like it. It's really funny b/c I had three or four different people approach me to say that my clothes were really hanging on me. I thanked everyone, but didn't have the heart to share with them that these were the NEW smaller pants.

I'm now back home and everything's in perspective. I guess I just gotta go shop for some more pants. What a problem, huh????

Uh Huh!!
I'm the one who had my pants fall right off me in my backyard. They were spendy and I refused to part with them. Hmmmm are we funny or what???

I feel ya Ark. Now that all(every last shred) of my old clothes are history, I have about 3 things that fit. I hate spending money on clothes that won't fit me in another month. The clothes I bought in January to hold me over are history, too.

I broke down and went to Goodwill. I actually found a good pair of jeans for $6.99!

Another idea I've had is to take some of my better things to an upscale consignment shop in the city and negotiate a trade, lol. I haven't done it yet, but it won't hurt to try.

Oh well, if we must have problems, let us be glad for this one, right?

I am sorry to hear that you had trouble with your pants. <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_4_124.gif" alt="No Pants Day" border="0"> Maybe you could buy a pair that is snug, but has the adjustable waisteband. That way they would fit now, and then later. Or, maybe a skirt?? You could always fold in over and belt it and make it look like a wrap skirt!! HEHEHE Anyway, I am glad your pants don't fit anymore, but I am also sorry you had a tough morning. My dad is so proud of my loss, that he has agreed to reward me. I told him of the rewards my hubby was giving me, and he said that for every 2 sizes I go down, he will give me $500 for new clothes. I think I will just save all the money, do garage sale and goodwill shopping for now and buy a huge new wardrobe once at goal. He told me that however many total pounds I lose, I could add a zero to the total and he would allow me that much money at goal for clothes and such. That was really exciting and a HUGE motivator. He only told me of this today, so I am still trying to "get over it".

Hi, Everyone,

You talk about clothes really getting big on you. Recently, I wore a gathered skirt and matching blouse to church. They were really getting drapey on me, but I figured the outfit didn't look that bad--still good enough to wear, or so I thought. Things went fine until I went to stand up from kneeling after a prayer. I don't know; something just happened, and next thing I knew my skirt was on the floor. Something had come loose on the zipper and hook and eye at the waist. Literally, the skirt just fell to the floor. I know I turned red and had an astonished look on my face. Thankfully, almost no one was looking my way--I was in the back, and it was a very small group. With a look of horror on my face, I did catch the eye of the one man that saw this--thankfully, he did not show any emotion on his face, and he just looked away--that was the kindest thing he could have done. I was flustered for days. I did not think I would share this with anyone, I was so embarrased, but with the train in this conversation--I thought I would chime in.

You better watch those too big clothes!

I wear jeans to work, so that's all I own right now that fits. I figure when I have something that requires nicer clothes, I'll go right then and get something new, for just this reason. I don't want to buy something nice - or something I really like - and have it be too big by the time I'm ready to wear it!!

I'm glad you have it in perspective, though. There are definitely worse problems than having droopy drawers because you're losing so much weight!!

The 38" waist jeans I bought a couple weeks ago are already showing signs that they're getting a little loose. I tried on my goal pants (36") and they go on, tight, but they go on. I may need to re-evaluate my goal pants down to 34" if this keeps up. I am one happy camper. I haven't worn 36" pants in almost 20 years.

I just got up from a nap and read through the thread, and this is sooo funny. Obviously, I can laugh now but at the time it was just awful.

Laurie ~ Wow, what an exciting development for you. Huge motivation! I like your idea regarding the wrap skirt but then I'd have to shave my legs <grin>.

Lan ~ I'm so glad you shared your story b/c I really needed a laugh. I feel so connected to this group like we all know exactly what each other is going through. It's a great feeling b/c I've always kind of felt disconnected from the world before.
