After years of denial, using scarfs, long shirts and stretchy pants I finally accepted the fact that I had gained over 100lbs. At 250lbs I am at the heaviest I have ever been in my life (even bigger than when I was nine months pregnant). I can't believe I can barely put on my own socks.
This is day three of the Medifast program and It has not been easy. The food tastes different and is taking some getting use to. Temptation is everywhere, I mean everywhere. I am taking this day by day.

Two months ago I was diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor suggested the medifast plan along with exercise and medications to help with my insilin problems. I know that I am responsible for the weight I put on, because I was eating way too much junk. The PCOS is only one small contributer to the problem.

I do know now that food was my addiction and it will be a long road to recovery. I don't ever think I will be "cured" from my food addiction - but I think that this is the first step in dealing with my addiction.

12 pounds gone/ First week

Postby alohacate » July 3rd, 2006, 10:37 am

I purchased a scale at Macy's (I haven't had one in the house for years) and I cannot believe it, I lost 12lbs my first week on Medifast?! Unbelievable. I made my entire family weigh themselves to check the scales accuracy. Yep, 12 pounds gone.......
I am so happy & motivated. I've incoporated some freebies such as bullion and dill pickles (one a day) and I am drinking lots of fluids (h20 & crystal light).

Original starting weight: 250 Pounds lost: 12 Current weight : 238
Start Date: Monday, June 26, 2006 Age: 38 Height: 5'10

Survived 4th of July

Postby alohacate » July 5th, 2006, 10:50 am

:) I did it! I made it through the fourth of July! Belonging to this "blog" really helped. I remembered things that I read:
1. The food will still be there next year to sample.
2. Think of medifast as your "medicine".
3. Learn to say "I'm Okay - thanks".
These statements really helped me, thank you to the wonderful people who wrote them. I brought my banana pudding and crystal light and discretely mixed my food and ate/ drank with everyone else. There were many temptations but fortunately I wasn't craving anything and I managed to get through the night without cheating!

Crises

Postby alohacate » July 6th, 2006, 10:51 am

Last night was ROUGH. Around nine oclock I felt that familiar *pang* to snack. I thought I was really hungry. What saved me was positive thinking. I looked over at my sleeping five year old son and remembered not having enough energy to run after him, being embarassed to go to functions and having most of my clothes not fit. I also remembered something I read on this blog, I'm not sure of the correct wording but it went something like: don't let a moment's temptation stand in the way of the long term goal. I truely believe that this blog is an important tool in achieving this goal. It is like having a team of caring cheerleaders and friends softly pushing you along. :-P :-P :-P

I love your attitude, you're going to do so great on this! Softly pushing...sometimes, dragging kicking and screaming...sometimes. Cheerleading, always!

Dreaming about Food

Postby alohacate » July 7th, 2006, 10:44 am

Last night I dreamed about food?????? I kept dreaming I was eating the wrong things and once I put the food in my mouth I spit it out. *To Weird* I snuck on the scale this morning (I couldn't wait till Sunday) and it read 235. Whoa Nelly, that is amazing. I am going to wait until Sunday to change my weight ticker. I'm not really noticing a big difference in my clothing, probably because of the whole denial thing - I was wearing my clothing super duper tight, now they fit without the extra roll spilling over. I am looking forward to the weekend, it is easer to mix shakes at home versus at work. Besides the occasional offer of a brownie or a donut, my co-workers have been very supportive. I've learned to say "No thanks - I'm fine!".
I have started researching the "Body for Life" program. I think this will be a good transition and maintenance program since it is also a "Lifestyle", rather than a diet. For now I have a six month commitment to MF and will continue on this path.

Cate,
I had the "foodmares" too! I think a lot of us have, it's weird isn't it? Way to go with the 235!!!!

Another Weekend on MF

Postby alohacate » July 10th, 2006, 10:53 am

It is monday morning and I survived yet another weekend on MF. I am so ready for week #3. Wondering if I will reach that MF zone that everyone keeps talking about? Sometimes I "think" I am hungry, probably my old habits fighting to resurface. . Now that food isn't my favorite thing to do I am discovering other things like bath salts, lotions, makeup and crossword puzzles. These things seem to give me pleasure. I can't believe how much food was the center of my existance. I was having a serious affair with the vending machine downstairs from my office. I had a set place to accumalate my change, a small change purse to carry the money - large enough to carry the snacks upstairs (so no one else could see them - so I wouldn't be judged for carrying a snickers and a bag of M&M's). It all seems a bit strange to me now. 17 LBS GONE
